Sweet........ Got my fingers and toes crossed for luck. PM me with your demands and payment info.

Johnny, Here is the cover. I guess you would need to cut the top to clear the bow bar. But, it is in real good shape.:)

No payment required.:) Just let me know where to send it.

Gregg,

That is a great find, I dont know if it will help but here is the Poulan instruction sheet on the S25 chain brakes. It tells how to adjust them.

I'm sure I can fix you up with a muffler, just needed to know what style it used. I'll also find a good original starter handle, that Mac handle has got to go. Give me a day or two to dig one out.

Rep coming for both of you when I can!

I wasn't really begging I was joking, like I do in most of my posts..can't help it, built in hardwired DNA or something... I really don't have much swap stuff yet....err, except for those *quality* previously owned custom bent mower blades...and beeyootiful locked up spindles...and a right fair collection of oddball belts...totally whipped, but dang it, can't make myself chunk them out when I got handy nails in the shed wall to hang them on.....

I'll think what I might have that is worth a swap. I've only been collecting parts a short time lately. I don't have near the accumulated parts and junker saws most of you guys have. Now if ya got at least around a 24" d176 mount bar, and loops or not with it, safety is fine, (for my 245a), let me know and I'll PM ya then, I can make myself afford one of those with something decent I might have..and the dawg.... ;)

Found the dawg but no screws. PM me if you want it.

Any of you great Poulan guys have a good running S25 that they need to move to a great, loving new home to make room for the new 4400 project on the bench? I don't mind tinkering, but I am still learning on these small engines so I don't really want a non functioning project yet. I don't mind if I have to buy a bar and chain, filters, etc, as long as I can get some help figuring out what parts will fit. You guys have already helped me a ton with modding the 4620 I have now, and want to continue the learning/addiction.

PM me!

Nick

4200 flea bay

Ok here it is, all there runs but has air leak, most likely seals like EVERY SINGLE SAW I own!!!! has tons of compression no broken stuff, oiler works etc etc etc. I think I'm in "LOVE" all over again, thought I only used that term with my Partners BUT???? these are built like TANKS!!!!!
Oh I forgot no kill system, switch and grounding out wire do not kill engine, removal of spark plug wire did though! because choking it made it run faster!!!!
Found that filter on ebay for it too!!! think I throw some $$$$ into it, seals, carb kit, filter.
Also received my 3800 decals for the oh so deprived twins!!!

Man, nice find! I wish I was more comfortable around these things already.......when you speak of the "seals", are you talking about worn crankshaft seals?

Poulan 4200 seals

Yes the crankshaft seals, I find every saw I get has leaking seals, MY LUCK!!! its the old turn the saw sideways and idle changes!!!! most often its the crank seals. I have a whole bench full needing changed but some are harder than others!!! like pressed on worn gears on the bar side, or close fit sleeves.

But this saw is worth the $ and work I think, nothin like all metal vintage muscle for my vintage 120+ year old, old growth trees.

Mark Thanks. I will pm you. You know your sh, stuff. Never noticed the Mac contamination. I enjoy reading when you or a good handful of the other Guys give advice, or post; can pretty much bank on it. And thanks for the "Poulan 25, S25, S25 CVA Chain Brake Kit 02-26-90.pdf" it seems I have a hook problem in figure 12.

That 4200 looks to be a great project:msp_thumbup: I like the full wrap handle too. At least I think I do, never ran one with it. Must be a "west coast thing", just don't see em around here. They are still available from Poulan. But, at $150 I think I'll stick with what I got..:msp_ohmy:

Looks like you have the market cornered on the good lookin 3800's:msp_thumbup:

Gregg,

Yep, great find. I would give a bunch of folding stuff for one of those wrap handles for one of mine.

Gregg,

OH yes its a west coast thing, every saw I have ever bought locally out here above 65cc has had a full wrap, And I do mean every one!!!!! Just waiting to find some parts units to trade those full wraps off but there always runners!

4200 issues

So before I start ordering parts for my 4200 do they have any known issues I should address first, I am ordering the seals for now, fuel line and carb already done, and intake spacer is good and not cracked. Just trying to consolidate shipping for all my projects.

Got the Idle Screw for the Poulan 4000

I got the idle screw for my Poulan 4000 yesterday thanks to redunshee from this forum. He is a great guy, sent me an idle screw free of charge. Anyways, I installed it last night and it works great. I have a question about tuning though. What does it mean when I have the lo mix and idle adjusted where it is idling good, but when I pick it up quickly it stalls? Is it too rich or too lean in the low end?

Poulan PL 25

not a saw but i'm gonna ask anyway. working on a PL 25 poulan weedwacker for my SIL. rebuilt the carb, cleaned it out in a USC, blew it out with carb cleaner, blew it out with compressed air, reassembled with new gaskets, diaphrams, screen, and needle valve. i finally got it to start by putting mix in the carb throat. got the single mixture screw (man i hate those single screw carbs) dialed in per standard fast-slow-fast-avg technique (forget about the 1 to 1-1/2 turns out; this ones 3 turns out). problem is i can only get it started by shooting mix in the carb. the prime bulb is new, hoses are new, and i can see mix in the lines going to and exiting the carb when i'm bulb priming it. there is some scoring but not enough to not run. don't have a compression tester so can't say much about compression. i'd like to get this thing out of my shop. anyone got any suggestions; other than toss it? thanks, jerry

Duane, The only issue I can think of, would be the starter rope! :ices_rofl: I assume you fixed that though..

Glad to hear there is another 4000 out there in the woods again.! And, yes. That redunshee fella is a pretty good guy.;) I normally start with both the L & H screws on them saws out 1 full turn from lightly seated. They will usually run pretty good there. Then fine tune to your liking. The low side ya want rich enough to accelerate crisply, and not sag first. The richer you have the L needle, it will idle slower and vice versa. Once you get the transition to your liking, you can adjust the idle screw. Want it slow enough that the chain is not spinning of course.;)

Gregg,

YOUR RIGHT!!!!! Think I'm going to put a 3800 or two on the chopping block to fund a 85cc, and yah starter rope, well only had 3.5mm on hand to use!!! I need 4.5mm!!! I'm stretchin that poor thing to its limits.

Gregg,

I follow the same steps and haven't had the issue mentioned earlier. Wonder if the idle is too low? I'm guessing he may have the Lo screw a little lean. I turn the lo needle in until the saw starts to die then richen it until it does the same thing. Halfway between those settings seems to work. I then test as Gregg describes so that saw will not hesitate when you squeeze the throttle. If it does I richen slightly(counterclockwise) the Lo needle until the hesitation is gone.
