Got the saw home. Comp feels good, but pulled the muffler and saw some light scoring. I could see it, but running a pick over it i could tell they were very shallow. I think pull the jug, polish p/c and a new set of rings should do it. Otherwise, saw is not too bad. Yeah, thats a 16" bar on it:biggrin:

Oh, heck ya man. If it has good compression now, after you clean it up and re ring it, it should be great!

Fantastic Joe!! Congrats on finally locating one. It does look a little odd with the 16" bar. Make a great trim saw. I use a 28" on mine. Most guys will use a 30", if not bigger. Just find the biggest log you can once ya get it all sorted out. I'm pretty sure you will go to bed with a grin on your face.:hmm3grin2orange:

Gregg,

Thanks gregg, I gotta finish this Dayton 245A I have on my bench, then maybe a few others before I dig into this 5200. That will give me time to get all the parts in.
just was reading in the saw forum about "what new poulan should i get". I havent heard dumba$$ talk like that in a while! You guys let him know about it.

Yea, I don't generally like to get involved with "stuff" like that. But some of his comments really rubbed me the wrong way. Anyway, have fun workin on that 5200. They are almost a joy to work on. maybe because all the parts are big..LOL

Gregg,

These bars are Windsor bars, actual cut length from the end of my dawg on the 4900 is 26 inches and the # on the bar are 140T, 6290, and 44263. I am pretty sure all the bars he has are the same and all should have the adapter that fits on the bar studs. I have been buying these bars for a bit over $40 with tax. I think I saw a few 36 inch .404 bars that look the same, but will not get back in there until after the new year after that I will PM you with the details.

Ok, I guess I should introduce myself

Live in North Central PA, My Grampa had a Poulan dealership from mid seventies to late eighties.
Helping my dad cut his firewood over the last few years has kind of started a renewed interest in the poulan stuff.
I have my gramp's 3x5 Poulan metal sign hanging in my machine shop. It is the one that has a 245 across the bottom.

In my grampa's garage there was a room partitioned off with a woodstove in it. It has always been the "Saw Room"
as long as I have existed. Many memories of coming in to get warm in winter, gramp drinkin coffee, tinkering with
saws. He wasn't a huge dealer, but had a good reputation, and a small customer base. He sold saws, weed eater
string trimmers, and a few pieces of 3 pt. hitch equipment.

Here are some highlights of the stuff we still have, and no, nothing is for sale :)

8500- bought for dad, christmas 2 years ago. 75$ it was stuck when we got it, got it freed up, carb kit & new chain.

3) 4200's

5) 3400's that run, 4) ceased up/parts

ALOT of micro's atleast 5 that run, many parts saws.

2 GREEN poulan/generac generators: 1) 5hp, 1) 7.5hp both fully functional, and ready

110 volt electric chainsaw

Attachment to fit micro's to make them into a weed eater.

attachment for micro's for drill chuck (tapping maple trees)

Weed eater hanging bug light zapper- not joking, the box is still above the bathroom!

Chain making tools, all service manuals, bulletins, and a small amount of NOS parts

childs toy Micro (the one with the beaded "chain")

I wish this site had a poulan specific forum, thats really all i'm intrested in. But anyway, My intent is not to make
anyone jealous, I just thought I should give a little background.

Welcome to the Arboristsite in general, and the Poulan thread in particular!
We are always glad to have another Poulan lover in the group!
You will fit in well here I think.
If you ever have any questions, there is a good possibility that one of us can help.

Do you have any of your grandpa's old records, service bulletins, or other company literature?
We pour over them like archaeologists.

I'll put in dibs for one of those 28's. Let me know.

yes, lots....... some advertising, knowing his habits, he probably kept everything. I do know that nothing has been tossed.
he passed in 06, my gram still lives at the farm. I'm guessing I should learn how to post pics.........

Rings?

Got a PP375 that is a little weak, and could use a set of rings. Anybody got a line on a set? How about an aftermarket gasket/seal kit for a 3400-4000 series?

Welcome KJC!

Sounds like you still have some neat stuff. I have one of the weedeater attchments still in the box as well. Sometime I'll fix up a nice Micro to put on it.

Posting pictures is not that hard but I'm not the best one to try to explain it. I myself would love to see the generators.

You were smart to come right out and say your treasures are not for sale, we get lots of newbies here just trying to see if there old stuff is worth any money, thinking they can clean up.

Now on the literature, that is something that I hope you can and would be willing to share. I myself have been collecting all the old Poulan literature that I can find. It is priceless to have a large selection of different years of IPL's, service manuals, bulletins and advertisments when researching some of the Poulan history.

The folks here share these documents freely among each other. It would be great if you could list up what you have and maybe you could share it as well. Most of it gets scanned and put in digital PDF files. If your not able to do that maybe you could loan them to be scanned by one of us and then returned them to you. This is the stuff thats priceless.

According to the Poulan Pro website those rings can still be ordered from Poulan. Part# 530024756. Seals are NLA but it seems you can use generic SKF 6120 seals.

You might want to go over to Poulan Pro.com and see what alll gaskets can be ordered. There are really not alot of gaskets on them.
