Any of you guys have a couple of the elusive electronic coils for S25DAs? I have no problem parting with some green paper for them, but I don't want to pay the $50 each that they are on the bay.

It is awesome Bob. But I am far from "techy" I had a nice Iphone too, until 2 weeks ago. I was at work washing a snack vending machine. I had the phone on the corn of my tool box. I bumped the cart my toolbox was on and the phone fell right into a bucket of water. f$^& me! Tried the rice trick, nope it toast!

That and dropping it on the concrete floor is why I have a cord on mine that goes arround ny neck. Tom

By a landslide, I know more people who's iPhones have taken a swim than any other device. Most of them have ended up in urinals or toilets though. My neighbor's met it's maker via jackhammer though when he was breaking up a basement floor with a jackhammer.

I posted this first in the main chainsaw thread, but you know how it is.......

These appear to be the top end of the family of saws that goes from 36cc to 49cc, including the Jonsered 2036 & 2040, Poulan PP255, PP295, PP4620, 2600, 2750, 2775, 2900 and a bunch more including various Craftsman versions. The 49cc versions seem to fairly rare. I like these saws as they're very light and narrow and my 46cc has a lot of punch with the muffler opened up. Has anybody ever played with one of the 49cc saws? Just curious how they ran, and I will be keeping my eyes open for one.

You left out the cream of the 49cc saws, the PP305 and 3000. There is also the 2800 which is a tad smaller.

OH My Poor Brain

Have been scouring Arboristsite threads for a 49-50cc saw for limbing etc. Trying to spend some of my Paypal cash. Was looking at used 346XP's etc. Then I saw that my ole 3000 is pretty comparable to these other 50cc saws. Ok. So I am looking for one to use in VT. and I saw a 3100 Forrestor. 49cc and looks like all of the 2800, 3000 3300 etc saw styles. Comparing IPL's I saw that the 3100 and 3300 share the same crank and P&C. So how can the 3100 be rated at 49cc and the 3300 at 54cc's. Finally I assume the 3100 would compare favorably with my 3000 and might be a good choice. Thoughts?

No, I didn't leave them out - they look like great saws, but they're not the same chassis. They're also a little bit heavier. The ones I'm looking at are plastic clamshell engine saws.

The finger biter's happy with 40:1 so I'm happy. Sounds better and smoother on synthetic erl too. Might be picking up 3 more broken saws. Running outta places to hide them, the wife's gonna find them then I'm up the creek without a paddle, lol.

I got some time to go out and tinker on the Poulan 8500 project and after some cleaning was rewarded with 3 saws with spark, now it is off to the store tomorrow to get a few feet of fuel line to shore up the fuel systems then finish cleaning parts and re assembly. One of the saws will need a piston but I will get the other two running and completed before I dig into it. Also good news on the 5400, it also now has spark and will need fuel lines as well.

Nice! If I had an 8500 piston to offer, I would send it your way, but alas, saws that big don't seem to exist in the Midwest plains states unless they were "imported".

I tried the 'growing a chainsaw garden' explanation, and then the 'i'm going to make art out of them' hail-mary. those don't work.

I am thinking on getting a 36 inch bar for one of the 8500's, the new ones I have seen are .063 gauge .404. What do you guys think on running this set up? Has anyone done this? I can also get a 3/8 tip but I have a good cheap source for .404 plus I already have a .404 rim. I was thinking that since these saws all came with 8 pin 3/8 rims and are rated for a 36 inch bar, they should be able to pull a 7 pin in .404. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

My thoughts are since a 5200 pulls a 32" in Midwest hardwoods with authority I would think a 8500 would have no trouble at all with a 36 in your much softer PNW wood. 404 skip should be no problem either.

Since the 8500 already has 3/8", studs I wouldn't go out of my way looking for a bar for it and would just file out the slot a bit on a easy to find large Husqvarna bar for it. It only needs .5 mm filed out for it to fit.

She's quite understanding when it comes to my toys. They keep the house warm so I get a free pass on my toys.

OK, good deal, bad deal? Not too far from me.

20 inch POULAN 3400 chainsaw commercial 2 saws runs strong

Well heck ya. What do two good running 50 something CC stihls or huskies go for?

I have four of these saws now, They are great all around "one saw plan" saws. Get two bars, like a 16 and a 20, you are set.

The ones I have, two run well, one almost, still having carb issues, needs a kit, one I just got in needs all gone through thoroughly. I think it might be the only one with low compression, no pop yet. Even just for parts though, heck, just a good oiler off of one is worth some beans.

I know if I went to sell I'd want 100-150 apiece for them...IF I even wanted to sell.

Make a smaller counter offer, see if the seller bites, then grab 'em.

I don't think that's too bad of a deal, but I am still new to the saw buying "hobby". You might want to remove the link because there are almost always "vultures" circling waiting to swoop in and snatch the saws right before you get there.

On a side note, I broke down and ordered a new 24" bar, chain, and rim sprocket for my 4000 today. Evidently nobody on the swap meet thread had a decent used bar they could part with and I've got a desire to kill some trees with it. I guess I did buy it locally so I hope I get some good karma for that. The guy asked me what I was using it for because he said they usually don't sell anything over 20" in these suburbs. He then proceeded to tell me the chain I ordered was not a safety chain. I replied if I was ordering that size of a bar, I better be understanding of the kick-back potential.

I know I've typed this before, but I want to say it again.

Thanks a lot to all the guys on here, for the many bits of great information and advice you offer up. I really appreciate it and hope to continue paying it forward.
