Agree. I ported the exhaust port( don't have the ba%^$ to tackle the intake) and using your moded muffler, my 3700 screams. Am sure it will stay with a 4000, easily.

Bob

Guys you got to remember a 4000 is only .2ci and 3cc bigger.

I can't believe no one mentioned the S25DA that's been on EBAY for the last week. Maybe everyone was afraid to bring it up for fear of expanding the interest. Well, I had bid on it but stopped when it hit the high $100's. Sold for $203 as I remember. Someone sure wanted it. Hope it was someone here.
Bob

Wow that did go high. I got my NOS S25DA for$75, dude had up as a buy it now, I think the auction was 10 mins old when I bought it. He sent me a message, was like damn I guess I put it up too cheap. Lol

You guys ever take something apart and springs go flying as soon as you crack the cover loose? I took the handle apart on my 4000 to a) fix the droopy trigger and b) fix the throttle lock that seemed to act up. I got the lockout spring in the right place according to the manual, but what is/where does this spring next to my trigger go?

I assume you are referring to the round spring with the hook or U shape on one end. Thats the trigger return spring. It goes over the round knob on the right handle half. The PART hooks under the throttle trigger. Not all countervibes have this spring and they work okay without it. You may want to leave it off and see hOw out works. It is pain to instal.
Bob

Thanks Bob! I may follow your advice to leave it off, but ever since helping my father on his airplane when I was younger, I have a hard time with optional parts.

Nick, Heres the best I could do without tearing a saw apart. :msp_biggrin: The squared off end of that spring, hooks around the front of the upper part of trigger. The other end, rests on the casing of the saw handle. But, you have to get both halves together with the spring, and screw at the same time! LOL Kinda have to hold your tongue just right, but it ain't to bad.

Gregg,

--if you can't find what you want, PM me in a week or so, I just got in a load of cheap saws to go through. Got some homies and poulans. Nothing exotic or big, but I think several will be good runners fairly easily.

Thanks zogger, but to let everyone know I have located the missing filter for my 3500 it was found underneath the kitchen sink in the cabinet. My tues is one or both of the kiddos got their little crumb snatchers on it and forgot where they put it lol I m we I wasn't crazy.

Never had to replace one, so I ain't speaking from experience here, but I don't think any special tools required, except maybe some heat. They don't require special tool to be pressed in like the 3400, 3700, 4000 types do. Good luck finding new piston for a 5200. I will defer to Mark or someone else with more smarts than me when it comes to this job.:D

Gregg,

Nick,
Another thing I noticed from your picture. It will be easier maybe, if you remove the remaining handle from the saw! Not much room up front there to get things lined up. Kinda helps too if you can lay it over to one side also, to help keep everything in place. I know its more work, but might be easier.

Gregg,

Thanks Greg! That pic shows me exactly what I needed. Now, to do a vacuum test on this thing to check crank seals, etc, where do I hook up my pump? The fuel tank just has a duckbill on the vent hose, now what?

Nick

Blacberry Tablet! Golly Joe, you're getting very high tech! I can barley use my smart phone. LOL
Bob

It is awesome Bob. But I am far from "techy" I had a nice Iphone too, until 2 weeks ago. I was at work washing a snack vending machine. I had the phone on the corn of my tool box. I bumped the cart my toolbox was on and the phone fell right into a bucket of water. f$^& me! Tried the rice trick, nope it toast!

Nick, you need to hook up your vacuum tool to the sparkplug hole.

Gregg's picture is a lot better than my explanation. He is also correct that you'll find it much easier of if you remove the left half from the saw.
Even then you need three hands.

Nick, I find it best to block the oil pump off when doing a vac test on these since the oiler is a impluse driven one. If you dont you can get some screwy readings.
