I’m not sure I would use the noodles for smoking as they’re going to have some amount of bar oil on them and I don’t really want that on my food.

I have used this technique many times. There is no such problem. I don't blame you for questioning it. You bring up a good question, but try it once for yourself & see!

What about if you filled your oil tank with vegetable oil and ran it a few minutes before you cut your noodles for smoking?

You can do that if you like, but it is not at all necessary. I wondered about that before I first took the chance & used the noodles. There is not a trace of any smell or taste other than the delicious aroma of the natural wood smoke. FWIW, you can also use regular chips from bucking. I like the noodles a little better since they have more surface.
