i pick up my 088 from stihl dealer today. I was told that stihl saws 44 and up only have 90 day warrenty. Is this true? This the second time in a month the needle bearings failed under sprocket. I use the the saw for milling.

joemarty lost his bearings:confused:

Yep it is true. 90 days on saw, lifetime on ignition. However, I would give Stihl a call and see what they know about it. I would be interested why the bearing in the sprocket keeps failing. Milling may call for a bit more grease or maybe a better or synthetic would help. Of course you ARE keeping the ripping chain sharp, RIGHT?
Possibly the manufacturer of your mill would have some tips.

the frist set of needle bearings the cheap plastic cage gave out. this time the cage was in place but the bearings where gone. Why not use a real bearing set up, unsealed roller bearing? I am thinking about going to bearing shop to see if i can get one to fit.Any input on this idea would be great.

if its still under waranty id think about a terminal failure of some sort ,or just take it back and get your money back.
kinda bad to have to fix something new, to make it work ,when u paid the kinda mon they cost.imho

When the plastic bearing cages came out i was a little upset. But latter on found out they do less damage to crankshaft , & sprocket. When they were not maintained. That does not explain why yours are going out so fast.

joemarty, sorry about your troubles. after all this, I would consider the shaft to be bent, a misalignment is causing the bearing to fail. Take it to another tech and have them look at it, pal if you can, make a trade. Good Luck

I feel for ya bro, had my share of warranty horror storys. I know this won't help the current problems you are dealing with but it may help you avoid some in the future. Go Solo. They offer a 2 year full warranty even for commercial use. They only have up to a 90cc saw (true Bulldog) now but, will soon have a 94cc w/turbo air cleaner I'm told.
As much "abuse" as a commercial saw takes, you can't beat the way they stand behind their products. It's good iron. I've run it apples to apples. Good luck fighting the good fight.
