I am taking a trip out there real quick tomorrow to look at some real estate.

So I just want to hear what the PNW crowd has to say about the area. The good, the bad, jobs, places to buy things, outdoor recreation, and so on.

Anything you want to say. .

not a bad place, like maddhatt said longbeach is cool, good clamming , go drive the beach. iiwaco is good for charter fishing if ya don't have a boat.

its a nice place to visit in the summer, but i wouldnt want to live there. im only in the area during archery elk season and when the salmon are running.are you thinking about relocating?

its pure heaven !! summers are hot as heck, when its not raining or fogged in! winters are bone chilling and wet!! great place to raise a family if you dont mine an hours drive to a good shopping area!! step dad had a place at the rv park year around.. fort canby has the best for jetty fishing as well as fishing for sea perch from below the light house!! deer and elk are there also with good bear hunting also..... as far as work good luck.. you might try the charters or even the local loggers when their trying out for the history channels "AXE MEN " ?? SO IN OTHER WORDS, ITS A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT AN BETTER TO LEAVE!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replys ya'll. I was looking into Aerdeen too. I postponed my trip to Friday, so I have some time to look. I just want to be where tax is low, steelhead & salmon are everywhere, and possibly some good timber to cut.

Who has suggestions?

Aberdeen-Hoquiam-Cosmopolis are among the hardest hit areas in this current recession, so they might not be great places to move right now... but they might also be awesome places in a couple of years for the same reasons. Washington's outer coast is awful bleak in the winter. If you wanted to move inland a bit, you might consider Shelton, Pt. Angeles, Pt Hadlock, Sequim, Napavine, Winlock, Centralia/Chehalis, Pe Ell, any number of places. Only ones to really watch out for are Thurston, Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties -- more population means higher taxes.

You just discribed, Alaska!

to move here, you need to make two people move away to another state. We have too many people here.

Allow me to elaborate: most of the people who have moved here in the last 20 years are within 50 miles of the Space Needle. To move anywhere in this state, you need to convince two people within that radius to move. Outside of that radius, it takes three.

I like that too. There's somebody who logged their property here, and now it is up for sale at $100,000 for 20 acres of slash. Usually, they at least clean off the slash and throw some grass seed around.

I think we are thought to soon be a ski town? We are not near Ocean Park.

Things might perk up in Aberdeen. They're getting ready to start building the graving yards to pour the pontoons for the 520 bridge so there will be some work for a few years and I heard they might restart the Cosi pulp mill.
If you are looking for work in the woods give it a second think. It's tough times for loggers.

Well I saw the west coast today,:msp_love: and it was just great. saw the Dalls, Portland , Kelso, Astoria, Long Beach, Ocean Park, Raymond, Aberdeen, ect..ect.

Im pretty zonked so im not going to get into detail, but it was everything I expected. I was a little bummed not to see some nice OG wood, but I did see some damn pretty trees and the Pacific ocean was nice have a taste of.

If you're still in the area tomorrow evening, maybe we can go get a beer. I'll be in Chehalis in the afternoon, I live in Oly, and Oakville is about the midpoint between all three.

show him some og, gota be some around.

We have some big uns on Kraus Ridge, Woods Creek (pronounced crick) and other creek bottoms. There's a Big Tree area but it is probably snowed in. Mt. Rainier used to have big trees for people to crash into if they missed a turn.

The biggest would be in the Olympic Park.

Have you found people who will move away yet? :msp_biggrin:

There's bits of OG here and there everywhere. I know one stand, maybe 10 acres or less, just above the Black River between the Chehalis Reservation and Delezene. Don't know who owns it, don't know why it didn't get logged, but there it is. There's Old Fuzzy Top in Capitol Forest, there's Ellsworth Woods along Muck Creek, there's Priest Point and Point Defiance, there's Pack Forest... I could go on.

Haha, that sounds great, but I was back In La Grande by 11:15 last night. Put almost 1000 miles on the pickup between 4 and that time! I saw some nice dougs I think they where down off the road on the mtn after going through Kelso. Saw some yarders too. I am not sure what to do about the people problem, I was thinking that maybe if I am loud enough, a couple of those geezers that live on the peninsula will go on and buy the farm haha.
It rained alot, but there is something about the rain in the morning that I like. Saw the usual tweaker hear & there, but collectively, they seemed less obtrusive than they are here, I was only there for a day though. It wasn,t at remote as I thought it would be. There is ALOT to do compared to La Grande. . On the drive from the peninsula to Raymond, I saw a number of rivers and creeks. How much acess is there to them? The steelhead & salmon thing is a big deal for me even though Im new at it. .
