So what is eveyone using in there work saws. Keeping in mind American equivilent on octane rating as europe and other places use diferent standards.

Choose one fuel and one Ratio, Thought this would be interesting.

Maybe use the "Other Fuel" for stuff like C12 or some 100 octane stuff from the race track, but also alkylate, or if anyone is using E80 or E100...

You left out Alkylate fuel - that's what most people here use.......

I use plain old mid-grade in all my saws. Thats whats in the bulk tank on the farm.
I won't make a special trip to the gas station for 2 gallons of gas, and if I don't refill the 2 stroke mix as soon as it's empty, there will be hell to pay when someone else needs fuel.
That someone else will just get the gas from the bulk tank anyway......so why fight it.

Would it still not qualify as an "Other Fuel"?

I guess so, no info om the octane on the can - it is free from Bensen, Sulphor and Aromats, it says though.

When we buy it as OPE, 2-cycle fuel, it is premixed 1:50 with high grade synthetic oil, and can be stored like that for years.

Here is a bit more on the Aspen Alky fuel, but still nothing on octane rating.

Finding out that at altitude, (been cutting near 9000' msl) the best local gas here near the Denver area is 91 octane from either TA (travel America) truck stops, or 91, from a Shell station.

Have never found a consistent supplier for a better 2 cycle oil, been burning Echo Power-Blend, universal 2-stock oil, seems a fair synthetic blend.(?) As I'm sure there are a lot better oils, I only get to Home-Depots about 3 times a week, and there oils shelf has never been empty. The money HD's Power-Blend saves me over Stihl's oil is the difference between da cheep stuff and Premium gas.

I pour a long-shot, a heavy 3.2 oz per, or about 35 - 40 : 1 ratio, better a plug then a jug!

Running timed cuts, starting from a setting way to fat/rich, my MS-660 dose not get it's best time Intel it will brake about 13,300 RPM's free speed. that is near 10K with 28" of full comp buried in a cut. A 1/16th turn of the "H" screw out from 13,300 will 4-cycle/burble in a cut. Citago and other cut rate stations gas dose not seem as consistent.

From what I read on that site ,Troll, the 2t is ron-95,mon 92. looks like some interesting stuff. Being premixed and having a long shelf life are an advantage for sure. very low sulphur too.

I went to the product info pdf. I'm not as good with computers to make this a small link

Type of 2-smoke oil?

I voted for 50:1, but actually I use about 45:1 blue goo as I want to be more bearing friendly and not foul the plug. I get nice tan plugs now when I pull them. Tad more smoke.

I would also add "Type of 2-smoke oil used" to your seized posts:

TCW-3/outboard oil
All around generic unrated oil
JASO/API TC rated air-cooled oil
Stihl/Husky unrated but quality air-cooled oil

I flipped back from Stihl to Castrol JASO FB/FC rated blue oil again. I used to use regular gas in my saws and brushcutter. Now I use super after re-reading my Stihl and Echo books last year. And I used a bottle of TCW-3 oil once. Never siezed an engine though.

40:1 Redline synthetic oil w/unleaded gas in working machines - trimmer, saws, Lawn Boy mower, etc.

The vintage saws get 16:1 conventional oil & unleaded. Not really working them and the oils we have now are much better than when these machines were new.

I voted at 40:1 and 93 octane. I used to run this in my 028WB and 038AVS since that's what the manuals for both specify. Now I actually mix about 45:1 (.9 gal at the pump and 1 bottle of Stihl oil). Plugs color better at 45:1 than 40:1 for me and my saws. I'm hoping the new 009L will tolerate 45:1 as it calls for 50:1. I'm sure it will like the 45:1 just fine but I've only run 4 tanks thru it.

By the poll, it looks like everyone who uses 32:1 has siezed a saw but me????

What is the story on the 32:1 siezures?

Mobil MX2T at 36-1, with Shell, 76 or Chevron premium. 2 bottles left from 3 yr ago large order....looking forward to running the dyed new stuff. No lean seizures since switching.

Seized about 4 saws years ago, was using any gas, prolly some Arco, and regular....plus was using Optimol,a semi syntehtetic mix, which may or may not have added to the problem. Word was that it and alcohol was a really bad combo.

I use 87 octane at 50:1...I use the Husky XP oil.....I was using Motorex Cross Power 2T for a little while because they sponsored me when I was racing hare scrambles and gncc's...I don't use it anymore because it's no longer available in the US from what sources tell me...But it was an excellent oil.

re

I use 93 and whatever factory says for mix-I dont think either one of theses is the best plan but Im not sure what is - I use 50/50 avgas and amco 93 in my atv with oil injection "I think lead is good for an engine"-I upped time'n, compresion and jetted for this-if there is a best gas and mix for all my saws "old, new, modded, stock ect"I would love to no what it is - my present plan is to change to 93 and 40 to 1 for everything(depend'n on what tw finds out with these two polls lol !!
ps I read somewhere once that avgas did not perform good at hi rpms-any one no any thing about this ??
