This is an 80.

You either have an 80 or a 621, but if the top and handle are gray, it is definitely not a 90.

Yes!

The 80 was developed into the 801, and the 90 was an 801 with larger engine (and decomp valve).
On the 80, the access panel for the air filter goes full circle, on the 621 it is flat at the bottom.

This is the 621.

All the above pictures are from Acres site.

Now then, the question is will an electronic ignition from another model (70E etc.) fit an 80? I don't know. I do know if they fit, they won't be cheap.
I would try to fix the existing system.

Old Jonsered Update

My saw sure does look a lot like the 621 above. Unless there is another model that looks like this? Spitting image minus the hand guard. Does the 621 not have a decomp valve? Does the 621 also have a non-electronic ignition? Does the 621 have another coil under the flywheel?

Old Jonsered Update

My saw looks like the second one from the right, but has the black plastic piece on the bottom part of the handle like PlantBiologist's (spitting image minus the hand guard). That is an awsome collection of saws by the way!

Thanks!

The 621 has well deserved good reputation. With a 20" bar, 3/8 full comp. and 8 tooth sprocket they are suprisingly fast. So far I like it better than the 80. But the 70 is the is the better of the three.

Like Troll said, look at the round air filter in the middle if it is flat on the bottom it is a 621. If it is full circle it is an 80.

If it is in fact an 80, I would buy that ignition quick!

That is a great JRed collection! Wish I had that 111S!

Old Jonsered Update

Shouldn't a Jonsered dealer be able to identify their own make/model of saw? How would a dealer do this if there were no identifying marks?

Just wondering...

That all depends on how old of a dealer they are. Your saw is 30 years+/- old. A lot of it is just knowing what to look for to eliminate some saws and narrow it down to what it is.

I don't know, if he is a recent JRed dealer, he might have never seen the old ones. Around here on AS there are more collector's who know what they are as soon as they see them. If I seen an old 751 or something to that affect, I don't think I would know the model number as well.

Some 621 had that guard, some not (like my 1970 one).

The front one varied some as well, on mine it is lower than the one in the the pic from Acres site, thyat PlantBio posted - some late ones even had a chain brake.
