and are parts hard to find ?

thanks
calvin

I will have a counter vibe soon. I just cannot remember the model number. It was my grandfathers. There is an old Mac as well.

I've got a 45 in pretty bad shape. I've got it partially pulled apart but haven't had time to really get into it but will sometime in the future.

It was made only one year 1963-1964 and 82cc. Interesting because it has a sand cast aluminum body.

Though this pic comes from Acres site it looks exactly like and in the same condition as mine EDIT (right down to the missing muffler screen).

Guess it wasn't very popular. :dizzy:

I'll probably need parts if I ever want to get it running.

I've got an S25DA, 25CVA, 306A, and 245A. Some parts aren't hard to find (carb kits, bars / chains, air filters, recoil / clutch covers / air filter covers from used saws) and some are (pistons, cylinders, rings, coils). I think most people are buying parts saws and cannibalizing them (or buying parts from cannibalized saws). Other than consumables there don't seem to be many NOS parts left and some people may not be willing to pay the premium if a used alternative is available.

I'm no expert, of course. This is just what I've noticed from playing around with my saws and observing trends on Evilbay.

3400xp

I'm just about finished with a Canadian Poulan 3400 XP PRO (It's really a 4000). I'll post pics soon. If there's anyone form Canada on this forum that has one, I'd love to get my hands on another one, as this ones my dad's. Calvin got most of the parts I needed to rebuild it for me.

did you ever figure out the piston ring issues ?

or was that someone else having issues with piston rings

I still have a pair of Poulan Pro 375 (61cc) saws mixed in with my new saws. They both run great, have quite a bit of power and are fun to run. Some parts are hard to find, but I haven't really needed all that many for them. M & D still carries quite a few of the older Poulan parts.

i have the same saw as 7 but mine is a 46 (and the muffler screen is missing, too). probably just a model change with minor updates. i don't remember what the displacement is on that saw. it will run with mix down the throat, so i am assuming i just need a carb kit. i will probably do the lines while i am at it.
this is an uggggggleeeee saw. it has the lines of a cardboard box.

Yeah I did, A guy I spoke with back home in Canada told me that the Canadian 3400 uses an American 4000 jug and slug. He's a big fan of these saws and gave me the rings.

btw, do you have any of the gasket kits laying around? The oil pump is leaking outside the clutch cover That's the kit that has all the carb/intake manifold gasket, cylinder gasket, oil pump gaskets, etc.

I have a poulan 5200 and 6000. I run the 5200 for fun and to impress friends. The power is unbeleaveable. It's more than my muffler modded 064 and close to my muffler modded 066 stihl. I just ran about four tanks of fuel through it sunday cutting dead elm. I use my 6000 from time to time cutting stumps off for my stumpgrinding buisness. It has a 40" bar and pulls it well. They both sound great when they are cutting.

Actually yours looks quite different (not to mention in much better shape) than mine. I thought it was gear drive until I went to Acres and saw it is "roller chain reduction". Never heard of that. Anyone know how that works?

you must be speaking on the obsolete parts

dealer m and d not the other m and d
yes theres 2 of them

there is actually a dealer in iowa that deals in the old antique briggs stratton and tecumseh lauson parts i called them up and they want a list of all the antique briggs i have so they can give me a price they will pay me for them parts top dollar dealer prices too so he said he will give me 8.96 for each gasket set i have of the K ZZ B engines yea the 1935-1948 B engines that briggs put out those parts are old and still new in the orignal boxes and i finally found someone who will buy them off of me

so as soon as the rain ends and the sun comes out i will be taking down part #s and pictures and send him a list

i looked and i have 30 gasket sets

Mike Acres site has these as being produced as early as 1970. They really are great, durable saws. I inherited the S25DA from my father, who strictly used Poulans. I will admit that I haven't been exposed to much newer saw technology, certainly nothing less then 10 years old, over 45cc, or what would be considered a "pro" saw. To be honest I avoid the former, for fear that I catch a bad case of CAD (which is why I read here much more than I let myself post). Regardless, it's a fun and fairly cheap hobby for me. They allow me to maintain my land, my parents', and help out a friend or two.

Wait for ModifiedMark to chime in. From what I've read on here he seems to be the resident Poulan expert.

yea mark is a real good person when it comes to poulans him and fish are good at those saws they both know them very well as me also but i have to give them credit cause most the time they beat me to a thread about poulans i wish i can find someone to take these poulan parts off me to distribute them to who ever needs them at a later date just getting them off my hands is what im trying for to find someone to get these i may put the part #s and all on the trade post so i can avoid putting them on ebay

It will out cut my stihl 064,(same CC motor) and will almost keep up to my muffler modded 066. I ran about 4 tanks of fuel through it sunday cutting firewood. The 6000 is a great saw as well,(dolmar 153) Mine pulls a 40" bar. I

Thanks but that's funny! No I'm no expert, just always liked some of them, and had some experiance with some mostly back in the day.

I have been more interested lately in some of the history and the series of the different models.

Oh and I have a few Poulans and am always on the lookout for more of them! (along with all the other brands too!)

Calvin, you need to make up a list of those Poulan parts you have and post em up, and if you have any that I can use, and priced right, I will try to help you make some vanish
