i was wondering what you guys thought of an early 90's stihl 038 mag with 20 inch bar and a 32 inch bar with a case and some chains, including a carbide chain. it looks really clean but i know that dont mean much, it doesnt seem to have alot of scratches- like hard use. the guy wants $450 for it all. what do u guys think?

It sounds a little high...........To me its like anything else thats not made any more, if I really want it and find a nice one I will give a little more than the
going price. Yes a fool and his money will soon part :help:

the guy said that it was hardly ever used, he had bought it brand new. it looks nice and clean. he also said that it had about 40 hours on it, but then i would have to go by his word. so its either this saw or a brand new 441 magnum- like a $300 difference

Get the 441

If it's barely used, been stored properly, it might be worth that. If it's just been cleaned up to appear beautiful, it won't be. Well, it wouldn't be for me. But you can likely tell if it's had only slight use. Most of us dream about finding those "never used since new" saws for a decent price. If you are unsure, you could take a gander at the piston.

That's a bit high, but if in really nice condition someone who craves a classic, bullet proof Stihl like a 038mag.... I have put many hours on 038s, they are rock solid and wouldn't mind one for my own but I'd have to have spare mad money to splurge for that one. Take off the muffler and take a gander at the P & C, only few minutes and the owner shouldn't mind if really expecting to gain top dollar for 'er. I wouldn't say "no way" not knowing the thickness of your wallet and "crave" factor. But if comparing to a new 441 for day in/out use and you don't mind shelling out the extra for something shiny w/warranty I'd advise to go that way. What the heck, it's not my money right?:greenchainsaw: :monkey:

Then again it could be worth that for the right person if it's in great condition....:dizzy:
