Well, I went out to the woods Saturday to cut a load of firewood. I managed to ventilate my trousers in a couple places. First the croch ripped out climbing up into the bed of the pickup, then I snagged a piece of wood near the front pocket and ripped the side open. When I got home, I tossed the pants on the floor by the bed. Later that night I picked them up and handed them to my wife and asked her to toss them in the trash.

I stopped at the credit union after work today to deposit some money from the saw business. As soon as I realized I was short $200 my heart sank. Yep, 2 one hundred dollar bills were in the back pocket of those pants, and Monday is trash pickup day. I rushed home hoping that my wife forgot to set the garbage out, or at least didn't empty the kitchen garbage can. No such luck  My $200 is probably being burried in some landfill now. It sure is nice having so much extra money I can just throw it in the trash

Tony really sorry to hear that.

Nobody ever said running a business was easy and without its pressures.

That reminds me of the time I showed up at my parents house for the weekend when I was in college. I packed all my dirty clothes in garbage bags, which was basicly all the cloths I owned. Seems I forgot to mention it to my mom and she threw them out.

not like it never happened to anyone else

Threw out a pair of jeans once....had a single truck key in the watch pocket...Not one of my prouder moments. :dizzy:

I was out cutting firewood at a construction site that a bunch of other woodticks were scrounging wood from as well. The next day I went to get the few $20's that were in my work pant's pocket and discovered they weren't there. So, I hustled back to the site and found my $$ just laying there on the ground. Some days you're lucky....

I bought a brand new Honda lawnmower, checked the oil in the store and was sure it was full. Took it home started it up and couldnt figure out why it was making squealing noises. I rechecked the oil and to my horror it was empty. I had mistaken an "oil sheen" because I hadnt done a through checking. I was devastated, but luckily the mower still runs 4 years later.

UP IN SMOKE.
Reminds me of the time I was tossing some "junk mail" into the woodstove to get 'er started, and my habit of opening stuff first paid off - found a check for $550. in an envelope we'd thought was just another ad !!

My wife called the landfill just in case there was a slim chance that my garbage could be easily located. The lady that spoke with her on the phone said they had a family that threw away an envelope with $7000 cash that was going to be used for a vacation. I guess the guy went to the landfill and poked around all day with a shovel to no avail. Now that's gotta suck.

Losing money always hurts.

Want a twist on this? My wife is the one who always leaves money in her pockets! Maybe I need to do the laundry from now on......naw, ain't worth it.

if some homeless picked up, then it's a good donation. in china we have a saying: it's not a bad thing to loose something....

I agree with the fact that if it did someone some good that not all was lost. Maybe they needed it more than I did. What burns me is that it is more probable that the money is simply buried in a landfill, never to be seen again. The only way I can feel good about it at all is to think someone found it and made use of it. Can you imagine if some homeless guy found an envelope with $7000 cash in it!

I guess I have learned or at least been reminded of some good lessons. First, to be a little more careful and organized with how I handle money from the business. More importantly, to keep things in perspective. It was only money, and even though I worked hard for it, and everything else I have, it can all disappear in a blink of an eye, if not while we are living, certainly when we pass on. Last time I checked, you don't see U-Hauls behind herses, and as Solomon said, everything you have will be left to those after you, and who knows whether they will be a wise man or a fool. The time I spent to earn that money which can so easily be taken away, I could have spent with my kids, my wife, and family, building on our various relationships. It's too easy for me to get caught up working hard and ignoring things that are much more important, especially when it's something I love doing, like messing with chainsaws.

200 hundred bucks

Dude, sorry bout that. Do like I do, when my pants have finished their first life, I reincarnate them into rags. Then you can get some more mileage out of em and maybe avoid the losses.
Now your due some good luck so watch out! :Eye:

My wife got a scorched arm doing the same thing. Tossed a handful in the stove and realized the paycheck was in there. Recovered it somewhat scorched but cashable.
