Hi trying this again got no replys first time, does anyone use one of these and can help me with proper instructions i have the manual but the options in the pic attached will not come up on mine.Idle rpms are no problem but hi revs I cant get a steady reading.taco 2.jpg

That steady reading you’re struggling to get is possibly to do with limited ignition coils. Many modern 2 coils have built in circuitry to adjust / advance and limit spark. When the limiter kicks in, unless you have a tachometer that can read limited coils, you’ll get gibberish - it will jump around with all different numbers and won’t stay steady.

My advise is to not buy an expensive edt9 - it’s not very good. Instead, use your tach knowing the second the numbers start jumping around you’ve hit the limiter. You can set stock engines there and they’ll be safe. The manual specs will tell you the max rpm is “rev limited ….” Set it and forget unless you want to dive into the subtleties of tuning.

Thanks for that.As a matter of intrest could you tell me please the makes of tack that would work? The saw I am working on is a Stihl MS 391 but I do work with other saws.

The only ones I know of are the stihl line. As mentioned, they don’t even read all limited coils. I had 2 fs55’s and my edt9 read one, it went whacky on the other. My advice, keep the oppama. It’s a great tach. Set limited coil engines to the point where your tach just starts to go a bit crazy. If at that point, when loaded, the engine still 4 strokes, continue to lean it out.

Old thread but just a quick update for other users of this model. I have the same model and the commands are completely different from the Oppama documents. For instance, to set the cylinder mode, you hold the set key and it starts counting, 01, 02, 03, 04. You release the button at ONE of those then press the set key again. To reset all, hold until you reach 04, then quickly press both keys for 20 seconds. Unit resets. Unfortunately that's all I know and am pretty much lost with this model. FYI, it's 3 weeks old. Regarding the cylinder mode, at one of the settings, the unit doubled the readout and at another setting, readout was normal (for a 2 cylinder, 1 spark per rev).

Update. I think the command set is different because all the cheap Amazon copies are just that, copies made in China. The real Oppama unit seems to be over $100 at this time.
