Has anyone else noticed that oregons quality seems to be going down hill. For the first time ever I blew a SN on a new powermatch bar. When I took it off I noticed that the rails where fairly worn for how much time was on it. I have never had this problem beofre. In fact I had one PM bar i ran on three differant saws and it was still in good shape.BTW I never abused the tip, dont plunge cut, and never run the chain too tight.

My biggest complaint is the single rivet on the PM's. The slightest play in the tip will wear tip and bar out in short order. I lean towards Windsor or the Total Super bars. My customers tend to go for the Oregon, I think it is mostly a name thing, as many of then destroy a bar long before they wear it out.

I'm not talking about re-tipped bars. I have fairly new bars come in with a loose rivet.

Nope, not me anyway i get about 150, to about 200, loads of logs out of em, use to try to use windsor , but they would only last to about 100, and ahalf dozen tips so i started with oregon, no problems just good luck.

Mack,
Where can you find Total bars? I tried several searches on the web and came up with nothing.
I know they exist, I have several loops of their chain.
Help please. I'm lost again.
Tod

Do a search for the Tilton Equipment Co. website. It is their house brand. I sell the Total bars. Some of them are marked Tsumura/Japan. They seem to be good quality bars.

I sell some GB, I have been told they are Windsors, but I wouldn't swear to that.

Hi Folks-

Dozerdan ( Danny Henry ) is a Lazer dealer and can supply you with Total bars all day long. One note on the Total bars- They use the same stell and finishing process as "Cannon" bars ( which are supposed to be the best ) and the old school "Sugi-Hari" bars. The stell is very hard and the Total bars do a great job.

xander,
Most Jonsered or Efco dealers can get Total bars and chain.

 Since we are talking about bars what do you guys think about stihl brand bars? Are they as good of quality as oregon and windsor etc. I have a friend who owns a sharpining shop and he sells a brand called Laser, and he can get GB bars and windsor and from the way you guys talk they are good bars. Also the company Laser sells saw chain and he says they are a good chain, he says oregon chain is getting real soft now a days and he would go with Laser, just wondering if you guys had ever tried one? I mostly just use Stihl brand chain.

I haven't had any problems with Oregon thus far. I like the Stihl bars quality but I'm not crazy about the pregnant look.

I'm looking for a top quality but light-weight 12" bar for my 335. I'm going to run 91 chain (the agressive one - not the anti-kickback version). Anyone have a bar recomendation?

I like oregon bars. They have greasable sprockets on them and my stihl bars dont
Thats what I dont like about stihl bars. No grease hole. If I blow a tip Im going to take it apart and see if I can bore a grease hole in a new one. I think they are sealed though.

Man, what are you guys doing that blows tips? With me, tips are a non-issue because the bar is worn out by the time the tip is shot. Russ

Jokers, I have never blown a tip till now. Upon inspection of the tip in question it appears as if th clearance between the sprocket and the outside plates was too tight. This was not use induced as I have only cut firwood with it. I have never pinched the tip.

Hi Ben, did that tip come apart or did it seize? I`ve noticed quite a few "tight" tips over the last couple of years, not as smooth rolling as tips of yore. Russ
