Other than the MS260 & 346XP, which others in that class are worthy?

I played with an 8 and a 7 tooth on the 651's. I think I've settled on the 7 tooth, unless your just cutting really small stuff. The 346 does crank out the rpm's though, more so than the 651, but a little more raker depth on the 651, and it's a close race. I'd sure like to try one of those little Echo's. I wasn't too impressed with the stock power of the CS-670, but have always liked the feel and the construction of the saw, and after porting, it's not bad.

I've got a Stihl 028 super, 026 and Sachs-Dolmar 115i that I use for clean up and fire wood. The 026 and 115i will edge the 028 by a hair, thats all. I run 3/8 RS on the 115i and 325 RS on the 026 and 028. 16" bars on the 028 and 115i and 18" on the 026 so this is not a head to head race. I also have a 2050 Jonsered [325/16 ], but it's not in the same league as the others even though it is fun to run.

I've gotten three tanks through the PS-540 now. It's not a bad little saw. I noticed that the 115 looks very similar to the PS-540, but with a couple cc's less displacement. The 115 is rated in the mid 3 Hp, but the bigger PS-540 is rated right at 3 Hp. I'm wondering if we've got a chocked off sleeper here. This saw weighs no more than a 346XP, and at 54 cc's, has got to be the lightest saw for it's displacement. I'm starting to get the itch to pull one apart and take a look see. Has anybody run a modified PS-540? It certainly is no match for the ported Solo 651, but with a little work, I wonder.

I have a few of the 540s here. Give me a few weeks and I will port one of them. I have been meaning to see how one of them comes out, just been too busy with customers saws to do any of my own.

The PS-540 is old news and the fact that it is 54cc and only 3hp has to make a guy ask what is inherently weak about this particular package in terms of performance?

I`m curious to see what Dan or anyone else has to say about this saw after mods, but if the new model, the 5000 I believe, is truly almost in the pipeline, it becomes more or less irrelevant doesn`t it?

My 346xp out classed my 260pro every time. I was really disappointed in the 260, and traded on a 361. The 361 is so far superior, that I now wonder why the 260 is in the product line. Bob
