I know that the Pantin was designed for kernmantle ropes. While our 16 strand arborist ropes are balanced differently than kernmantles for other disciplines (ratio of core to cover strengths) they are technically kernmantle ropes and work with the Pantin (well or poorly depending on rope diameter). Is there a reason why the Pantin should not be used on 12 strand?

I have always been frustrated with the Pantin (if you want to be politiclly correct call it the "Freedom ascender").
It is designed to easily slip out of attachment to the rope. On long ascents this can be a pain.
What I did is sew up a Croll ascender to fit on my ankle. the longer frame makes it lock on even with twisting

Thanks guys, Kicking out has not been a problem for me-I like the fact that you can get the Pantin off the rope easily when you aren't using it. I couldn't see any reason why it would harm 12 strand but since the instructions that came with it specified kernmantle I thought I'd ask. :)
