Bill-

That's the one part that is tough to find for the 042/048. I'll look through my gear tonight and see if I have one. If I do, your friend can have it.

JJ,

Well I do know Mike would appreciate it. I met the guy at a local Sunday auction about 7 years ago. We were both looking at a pretty clean 042. I got to talking with him and his buddy for about 45 minutes. You could tell he really wanted to buy that 042. I wanted it also but I had one already so I figured there was no reason in bidding against him. He ended up buying it for a very fair price. I mailed him the service manual and IPL so he could get it going. He ended up mailing it to a shop in the Dakota's for them to work on. He made the mistake of sending a new 24'' bar with it. On it's return trip to Iowa the bar got lost (poked through the box). When Mike got the saw back he loved it but ended up having darn near what a new 044 would have cost at that time. I met up with him from time to time for the next couple years but I had not heard from him since about 2008. A few months back he phones me and asks if I had a source for the lever. I mistakenly gave him false confidence as I told him I did not think I would have a problem finding one. Well I had to eat those words as I could not find one. The few parts saws I ran across had the part missing. I would love to be able to drive up one afternoon and get his saw back up and running like it should. He is retired gentleman that simply loves the old 042.

sweet score, I got 041 parts coming out my ears if you need somthn, great looking 034. I have just reciently had the desire to own a 034 super.

Andrew

I just posted an ebay link for Wayne to that guy in Germany, but again, he's an unknown/untested quantity.

I know somebody that has them too but they're very expensive and I believe the guy doesn't want to sell anymore.
Jacob, too risky they could be cheap Chinese junk. That top buffer for the 042 P/N 1117-790-9913 is difficult to find over here.
Gmax,

Check with Leeha, last I knew he had some new 166 pistons.

Don
Will do, thanks

Would you have any spare mufflers?, I'm hoping the 034 just needs a piston and rings, I had to order a extension torx T27 to remove the cylinder.
Stihl just have to be different :hmm3grin2orange:

I gave the 166 a quick clean, it doesn't look to have done much work I can see a few bits I need for it, decomp, impulse line, intake boot clamp.
The piston rings are still good but there was a lot of carbon on top of the piston, I think a chunk of carbon seized the piston.

Two weeks ago I was looking for a project saw, now I have six of them :smile2: , I will probably keep the Dolmar 115 as small firewood saw, the Oleo Mac 962 Is complete minus a muffler (just needs a piston) I'm going back to the dealer to see if I can find the muffler.

Wayne-

I rooted through a bunch of stuff today like a pig in parts, and found the rear buffer for your 042. I wasn't able to come up with a switch
shaft for Bill's friend though, but I have a couple leads on that to try. I'll send the buffer in the next day or two.

Thanks Jacob, I started it up yesterday, the engine runs fine, the oiler is working well, It's hard to believe someone would dump a saw because it needed one AV buffer.
If it were impossible to find a bracket with a couple of rubber washers could be made.

Update

The Dolmar 166 is finally finished, a big thanks to Lee for his help, It sure sounds nice idling :smile2:
