We ended up with fewer people than we had originally anticipated, but it was still fun and enjoyable. caseyforrest, carvinmark, dneiger, and a whole bunch of Mark's family were in attendance. Many thanks to Tony from amickssuperstore.com for sending a box of goodies. They were very much appreciated!

We worked on Mark's 084, made some cuts in big wood with his 084 and 056, and with my 075. Sadly, we weren't able to use my 075 too much because the recoil broke and each restart required removing and reinstalling the gas tank and recoil side cover in order to rewind the starter cord, and then you only had one shot to start it. Oops.

On the racing side, we ran Kris's 361, my 075/066R/7900, and Dave's Homelite 750, piped 066, and modded Husqvarna 346 and Jonsered 2152. As with last time we were running in 8x8 poplar, one cut down and one cut up. We were less formal in our timed cuts than last time and didn't keep particularly good records. Though we had a stopwatch, we didn't write times down. I did write down three times that were interesting -
-Dave's piped 066 ran 2.31seconds (race chain)
-My 066R ran 3.84, 1.3 seconds better than last time (2nd sharpening Carlton round ground chisel with the back of the cutter ground down a bit)
-My 7900 ran 5.10, .7 seconds better than last time (4th sharpening unmodified Carlton round ground chisel)

Ok, here are some pics:

Some racing pics:

Long bars and long dogs do NOT make changeovers quick or efficient:

Mark with the 750, me with my 066R. Not much of a contest, really:

Sorry I could not be up there today with you fellows. This morning's work wound up running into the early afternoon, and by the time I was free (when I called Mark) it would have been to late by the time I drove 2+ hours to the GTG. At least the weather was nice, even if there was not a large crowd. I'll try again the next time a Michigan gathering comes up.

Sorry you weren't able to make it.

Dave Neiger said he'll be hosting a gathering in the spring up at his place, and we might also try to get one going a bit south of Lansing (Battle Creek, Niles, downriver Detroit suburbs) so it would be easier for the Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois people to come, too.

Mark should have some more pictures to post soon, too!

Great pictures and glad everyone had fun. That's what it's supposed to be about.
BTW, looking over Mark's left shoulder I see some timber in the background. Are there any good stems left in there?
John

Many thanks Computeruser for those pics. I had been following everybody's posts and thinking that I would really have liked to been there and join in, but it was simply too far away from us boys on the east coast.

I did a little cutting of my own and it was just a perfect fall day here, and looking at the pictures, I glad that the weather was just as good for you guys.

Any members over this way have an interest in doing one of those events? It would be easy for me to set one up at the store.

So guys, how was the chilli?

Mark would know better than I, but just from driving through and my limited experience hiking and driving forest roads in that area, there is some nice wood and a fair amount of veneer and pulpwood logging going on there. Mark regularly gets some nice cedar and white pine in to work with, too.

Nice country up there, too.

Bummer, looks like I missed a good time. Hopefully, I can make the next one. Glad the weather held out for you guys. so how was the chilli?

Thanks for the pics, wish I could have been there. What happened to EJ? I was really looking forward to seeing some bike saws up close.

Any milling pics of Kris's mill?

Sorry again guys, wished I could have been there. the worst part of it all was having the trucked packed and ready to go before getting called to work!

Thanks to all you guys,I really enjoyed your company.Tony, thank you again, your gifts were nice,I especially like the safety glasses.
At first it was all about the big saws,we swapped around bars and chains to play in the big wood.Kris tuned my 084 a bit and it helped.Dave showed up and found a problem with my re-grind job on the milling chain so I'll fix that.Kris dropped off my 025 that was being repaired in Lansing, thanks bud. After about an hour of talking(and learning) we all had chili and dip,it was all good.We all got to run Daves saws,I just love that piped 066 but he didn't leave it for me,dang! His 750 is mean too.I noticed that everybody got faster after the last meet, some chain mods worked well(thanks Rick).
It is more fun when you are just having fun rather than trying to beat the competition. Well, enough rambling,I'll try to post some pics.

Daves 750 runs real strong!!!

I knew I should have tightened those bar nuts tighter,Ah,we found them and it was back making cookies in a few minutes.Poor Brandon was running it when the chain came off, everybody was fine and all Dave did was laugh,he's a fun guy to be around.

Definetaly a great time. Thanks to Tony for sending up the grab box of goodies!!!

I didnt get any pictures, the camera stayed in the truck.

The only saw I ran was the 361. Timed cut with Stihl RM was just over 8 seconds. I swapped over to an Oregon LP, and shaved 2 seconds off the time. Amazing.

Thanks to Mark and his Girlfriend for feeding us yet again.

Steve, Mark does have a couple shots milling that small log of White Pine.

Grand daughters first saw

View attachment 38775

She just got this about ten minutes ago.Look at how she is holding it and how her stance is,this was without any coaching. She is two years old and when she is at my house if a saw is running she has to be there.A few more years and some PPE and she will need a real saw.

Sorry everybody about how I post pics,I just can't seem to get it.
Mark

Neat pictures. Thanks

That Grand daughter pic is great. To see that firsthand would have made my day.

Maybe next time guys.

I heard there was a couple 5100's in that goodie box from Tony???? :blob2:
