Neat pictures. Thanks

That Grand daughter pic is great. To see that firsthand would have made my day.

Maybe next time guys.

I heard there was a couple 5100's in that goodie box from Tony???? :blob2:

No luck on the 5100s. I was hoping, but it didn't work out. That said, Tony sent some good stuff along. Like Mark said, the safety glasses he sent are first rate and I may have to buy a box of those and pitch all my other ones. And the hats, pens, keychains, calendars, bar groove cleaner things, and the fold-flat can cozies, all good stuff! Much appreciated!!

It was amazing, though, to see how well Mark's granddaughter handled her saw. She carred it correctly (bar pointing backwards as she carried it at her side), exhibited good stance and grip when cutting, and even set it up on a log when she was done using it. But the best part of Mark's granddaughter getting her saw, which we didn't get pictures of, was when that vertical piece of wood was set up next to the log on the ground. She went over to it and started rubbing the side of the chainsaw bar on it - she's a carver already! That was absolutely precious.

Awesome pics

Great pics but must admit the one of the little girl with her saw is PRICELESS, totally beautiful...

to live close would be an honor......
great pics looks like fun.....
Looks like i see another Michigan GTG in order?

make sure ya post pics and stories...

My son is the same age, he only has a black craftsman but I guess we all have to start somewhere. When we mow the lawn he always puts on ear muffs just like dad, when he drives his battery powered jd around the yard he insists on wearing ear muffs, its the cutest thing. You got to start young with technique and proper ppe. That is priceless.

There is no way I could make it out there but I really wish I could have been in big daves company, what a guy. If the gtg at his place happens this spring I'd like to send one of my saws out to him to see how it stacks up, I guess it would be the next best thing to being there. looks like you had a beautiful day for it.

Speaking of Kids and PPE. When I go out to mow, my son puts his safety glasses on, his ear muffs, and follows me around with is "bubble mower."

I got one of those Stihl toy saws coming from Ebay, I know he will love that!!

I'm glad everyone had a great and safe time. I thought there was a 5100S in that box, NOT. It did cross my mind to send up a Demo for comparisons. Maybe next year. I would need to get it back ( what am I thinking, as I know someone there would be so impressed I only get something like a checky poo back in the mail). Anyway thanks everyone for the oportunity to help. Tony

Thanks you for NOT sending a demo 5100s. It would have come home with me, I'm sure, and we can all guess how that would have gone over when I got home... Anyway, as I sit here I have my Coke in one of the Husqvarna can cozies you sent, and my wife carried off the GB hat earlier this evening because it had a kangaroo on it and kangaroos, it would seem, are cute.

You should have an order for some chains and accessories coming from me shortly.

Sorry you weren't able to make it.

Dave Neiger said he'll be hosting a gathering in the spring up at his place, and we might also try to get one going a bit south of Lansing (Battle Creek, Niles, downriver Detroit suburbs) so it would be easier for the Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois people to come, too.

Mark should have some more pictures to post soon, too!

Are there any updates to this ?
Sounds like alot of fun.
Please keep me posted.

Computeruser, thanks for posting the pics, they are really good. Looks like y'all had a lot of fun. I would love to be able to get in on one of those sometime just so I could learn how to setup and use one of the alaskan mills and meet some of the guys on here.

...
The only saw I ran was the 361. Timed cut with Stihl RM was just over 8 seconds. I swapped over to an Oregon LP, and shaved 2 seconds off the time. Amazing.
...

Not amazing - to be expected, Oregon LP is one of the best round ground chisel chains out there, while RM is a semi-chisel.....:biggrinbounce2: :biggrinbounce2:

Just to make everyone aware,
that this thread ended at 10-10-06.
I am trying to re-energize it.
Maybe, we can get some chainsaw freaks together!!
