My buddy has a pioneer 2071 that needs carb work. It apparently has Pioneer's own carb on it. does anyone know if carb kits are still available for these saws? Acre's site says they can be replaced with a Tillotson carb, presumably the HU15A of the later P20. Does anyone have any idea what it take to do this conversion? Also the primer bulb is shot.

Thanks,
artie

I found a note in one of my parts book that says to use a tillotson carb conversion kit #474330 to convert the carb over from the OMC original. Doesn't say which model to use but the P20 carb should work. Don't know what the kit consists of or where you would get one now. Best bet would be to scrounge around a chainsaw dealer who has old saws kicking around. Primer bulb is probably obsolete by now and chances of finding one would be slim.

Thanks for the info, pioneerman. My local saw shop was in touch with Mike Acres, and he said the carb kits were hard to find even when the saws were new, and impossible now. No luck with conversion kit either. Looks like another "shelf saw"

Does anyone know where a guy could find the primer bulb for a Pioneer 2071? Mine dried up and broke. HELP!

Any chance you could just throw away the old one and do some fabricating to install a new standard one? On the other hand, do you really need it? If the choke is doing it's job, you just have to pull it over a few more times without a primer. If you keep the old primer, it's best to plug the line coming from the carb (small ball bearing) to prevent air from being sucked back into the carb and leaning it out rather then trust the check valves in the primer.

I'm not 100% sure I need it, just getting the old saw running again is all. Thought I'd like to have it original but if it isn't nercessary then I would consider getting rid of it altogether.

Fairly sure these carbs did not have a choke assembly in the Pioneer carb. As far as primers go, rare as looking for false teeth for chickens ,only a handfull of collectors have some or the parts required to rebuild one.

That seems to be the case unfortunately. Not sure if anyone has had any luck making a new primer for a snowmobile, etc. work for these saws, if it is even possible.

Wonder what carb options there is with a choke? I'd really rather keep it with the primer to be honest. I am not planning on using it as a "daily driver" but rather something to start up every once in a while and restore.

The Tillotson HU-15 A and HU-15E would be my first choice to see if they fit up as they were used on the smaller saws like the 2071, also a Walbro -22A was used as I have one on my 970., these use chokes instead of primers.

I've looked and looked for a primer bulb to replace the cracked one on my Holiday II with no joy. I've considered blocking it off and just giving the saw a spritz of fuel down the throat to get it running.

"Yep" the old stone age engineering is usually fool poof & works every time with nothing to go wrong the more "gismos" fitted the more to go wrong

Hi. Does any one know where the vent hole is in a 2071 pioneer?
Fuel keeps poring out of the carb, the fuel tank is persurized, cause the vent hole must be pluged. Any help would be appreciated.

Slightly ahead and higher than the recoil housing sort of halfway between the oil tank cap and recoil housing but higher up.
