P26 Opinion

I think since you like the 3270 you would like the P26. IMHO it's kinda like a smaller version, but with the addition of the "Easy Arc" compression release. It's pretty torquey for a 51 cc saw. If you decide to get it I can probably help you with any parts you need. If it's a P26E the electronic ignitions are harder to get.

What are the P26,s like. One is for sale over here and missing the starter cover,so not complete for a resto...Any help on this subject would be apreciated:confused:

Lawrence and Jerry - there is what appears to be an old IEL AB on Craigslist in Surrey (Vancouver) right now. No price though, but it looks to be in very good condition.

I'd love to have it but can't afford to make an offer right now.

Hi Brad
Thanks for passing the tip on to Jerry who contacted me yesterday about the saw .I had made contact with the seller about the saw,but he was already in negotiations with a prospective buyer. He said he would call me if the deal fell through. He has had the saw since he was 14 years old. Has 90 psi.Brad I still have a mental note to copy and send you the manual for the Skil chainsaw.
Thanks
Lawrence

Hi Stone69
Is the P26 that you have your eye on have the green plastic air filter cover with it.Usually they are missing or cracked and chipped. They are very hard to find in good condition
Good Luck

Full wrap bars

Brendon, Here's another photo that should be what you are looking for . They measure 11 1/2" by 8 7/8" inside to inside. I'm looking for a box and will get the shipping cost hopefully today. Look for a PM soon.

Wow, that's great news, Rob. Thanks very much! I couldn't find the mounting plate you were referring to in the IPL. Maybe it's for an older P41? I've sent you a P.M.

Edit: I found the mounting plate in an IPL for the P40. The bar you have looks like it has the recessed holes and will not need the plate. It is the bar I've been looking for.

Brendon.

P41 Western

Hi Fellas
I think it was Brendon who explained the difference between the P41 and the P41 Western. If it was someone else, I'm sorry about that.Does anybody remember what page that was on in this thread, or would they care to explain again.
Thanks
Lawrence

Hello David and welcome. The P60 series are the same physical size of your P51 and share the same crankcase and most of the other parts. A P60 series cylinder would fit on your saw. The differences are the addition of an auxiliary oiler, decompression valve and of course the bigger cylinder and piston. They're everything your P51 is and more.
Brendon.

Well guys I think I have finally met my match, I have boldly stated more than once that I could make any chainsaw run and restore most any old saw whether complete or just a parts saw. I have to take that back after a fellow brought this saw to me to have it restored. I have seen some very ratty saws and others that were in real bad condition but this one takes the cake.

I think this one may take longer than any other restoration I have ever attempted. LOL

Buried?

Hey Jerry! That "Saw" appears to have been "Dead and buried" quite a while back! Or at least dead and half way buried. Don't tell me - it was his fathers/grandfathers and he is just dying to have it running, right? Well I'm definitely a member of the more-money-than-brains club (still nearly broke, though) but I don't know about this one ...Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to find a way to deal with this, umm, saw. This message will self destruct in five, four, three...

He is very sentimental about this saw, it was left out under one of their hunting camps and after his father passed away he could not bring himself to go back there and close out the camp. He finally did after 26 years and the camp had collapsed on it. He tried to tear the saw down himself and got the covers off and the carb but the rest is a little more than he has experience for. He read my post about a NU17 that I extracted from an old abandoned logging camp and resurrected. He thinks I can do something with this one.

Sad story

I knew it had to be a sad  story. He should know that NU17 you managed to salvage was a saw of a different color-your own project. I know you can do something with it if you can find the parts, but when you have to bill for labor...let's just say sentimentality costs quite a bit. Hope he has deep pockets! Good luck on it and be sure to post with your progress as I'm sure we will all enjoy seeing what happens!

Jerry, I think you may have mistaken that meteorite for a chainsaw. I hear they are worth a lot of money, though.

It sure aint worth anything in this shape. I can move the flywheel a little and with a little/lot of cleanup I will see what I can do with it. May have to hunt up some spare parts though.
