I read somewhere about different exhaust ports and so cylinders must different if that were the case. I'm keeping my eyes open for a side (not front or rear) exhaust muffler cover and shield.

I have a toolbox of used muffler covers and shields, and spark screens. All the bases I have are junk. I will not be home for a few days but will see what I have if you like.

Sure, when you can. Base is good, just wanting to find a decent side exhaust and matching heat shield. We can talk on PMs when you are ready.

I just thought I would ad my 2 cents, I had a chance to buy a P61 when they were new, local dealer had one not sold and they were selling the new Pioneere p62 with the old yellow color and black handle, the new P62 pioneer was a western with the decal on the handle frame and rear exhaust and also with the SDC80 carb, part way though first year of production they went with the Pionner Partner line and changed the yellow to a orange yellow colour with black and put Hi-Perforance on the handle frame and serial # was CBW, I also have sales brochures for all these saws and they do not show that an any P61 saying WESTERN but maybe they could have at some piont also no rear exhaust on the muffler and the parts books also show that, they could have changed it at some point but I did not see it on brand new saws. I`am 72 years old and someday I won`t be hear so I should tell some of you people while I can.

Great information. Any chance of seeing scans of these sales brochures?

The P61 Western is real for sure. Enough of them are out there.

Morning, like I said not sure about P61 Western, Pioneer would do special saw orders for dealers. So did all the Western saws have black handles instead of green? I have different parts listings for P61 and the Western version parts are not listed . I was told by pioneer rep the P61 had to have the cover over the exhaust because of new saftey laws , I told him I did not like the look of that grill but the P62 did not have that so likely it was somebody in the Pioneer Company that did that. Les

I am now having carb problems with my 3200. It was running great then flooded out on me. Won't hold pressure on the metering plug. Cleaned it again & was a little better but still leaks. Is there a fix for that or another carb that works? Couldn't find an hs39-b anywhere.

Metering plug? The needle/seats or welch plug?

Spring could be weak, find a junk HS, maybe it'll have a spare. Sometimes a little grinding compound to help reseat the needle in the body can work.

The P61 westerns I've seen are black and have the short clutch cover with no grille. I have a standard P61 and you would not be able fit the rear exit muffler under that new exhaust cover.

No carb on the 3270 you bought?

For a sudden failure like that I would check that there is no debris in the metering needle well or on the needle tip.

Test the check valve. Remove the metering cover and diaphragm. The check valve is the brass plug with a tiny hole in it.
Hold a piece of fuel line tightly over the check valve. You should be able to blow in one direction and not be able to suck in the other direction. Make sure the valve isn't completely dry when when you do that.
If it passes air in both directions, it's shot and will flood.

(I believe you should be able to pass air blowing but my memory may be bad.)

The needle isn't seating. I tried some different springs. What do you use to apply the grinding compound?

I've never done his task myself. I figure you'd put it on the needle itself and lap it. Trying a new needle like Tim suggests will be easier.

Don't neglect the metering lever and shaft for some type of odd irregularity or miniscule piece of debris that just took a little time to present itself.

I have never seen a P61 series Western serial # plate is there a difference with the way it reads compared to none Western, the regular ones just say P61H or a S if it has a chain brake on the plate? Les

P61 H is a half wrap. A P61F is a full wrap which would be a western.

The needle tips need to be wet with fuel mix to hold pressure.

Yes, unfortunately it was. I had only made a few cuts before but took it along to cut up some logs. I just had this same problem with my 2094.
