Hi everyone...I'm a newbie, first post, and am trying to get my Pioneer 1073 to run smoothly....it misses (plug "seems" OK) at throttle...and am assuming the set scews need adjustment. Procedure?? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By "missing at throttle" do you mean that it hesitates/bogs upon accelleration or do you mean that it "blubbers" a little at full throttle unloaded? Bogging is an adjustment issue. Blubbering wide open but not in the wood is the way it is supposed to sound. (That intermittent miss at full throttle unloaded indicates a slightly rich hi-speed jet setting-which is necessary in order to keep from running too lean under load.)

It "blubbers" at full throttle, not in the wood. Sorry I was not more specific...have not learned the terminology. If I understand you correctly, it should, what I would call "mis-fire" at full throttle while not cutting? I would still like to know the how to set the screws. Excuse my ignorance, but I find it unusual to have to turn the saw upside down for adjustment.??

According to my service manual the 1073 has a fixed Hispeed jet so your only adjustments are the idle setting and the lo speed jet. Initial setting is supposed to be 7/8 - 1 turn out from lightly seated on the lo speed needle. That needle is accessible from the left side of the intake housing. If the Hi jet were badly "off" you could "adjust" by changing orifice sizes. On saws with adjustable hi speed jets you adjust until the saw screams (too lean) then back out until the saw just begins to "blubber". You can go to www.madsens.com and find a WAV file on their website that will not only explain the technique but actually let you listen to how it is done.:)

Whoops -wrong link! Try:http://www.madsens1.com/sawtune.htm
