I see Hacks either in Cars or Pickups With ladders strapped to the roof Going door to Door

Door to door soliciting for work ,here in the UK is about to be banned by law,to many crook's go door to door scaring little old ladies and over charging  leaving pro tree firm's and other occupation's ie drive sealing ,roofing repairs etc with a bad rep

IMO it depends on the situation. If I am doing a job in a neighborhood and have the time, I will walk around to a few houses that can clearly see the place I am working at and introduce myself.

I'd love to see the practice banned.

Here in Australia if selling products door to door there is a 10 day cooling off period. But when services take place it doesn't apply for obvious reasons.

In many instances the work is of poor quality by "fly by nighters" with no insurances etc. I also think that your marketing costs increase as the customers don't even get a chance to ring you.

Ban it I reckon.

Ain't nothing wrong with that, you can turn a day long job into a week in that neighborhood, and get new customers.

I see nothing unproffessional about going and knocking on doors. Its the work you do that defines your level of proffessionalism. It pisses me off that the ISA will happily take my money anfd then condemn knocking on someones door to talk to them about treework. Maybe its peoples insecurity about starting a conversation with an individual without being invited. I say again there is nothing wrong with it. The argument that is made that most people who knock on doors are hacks, is BS. I could call 10 companies out of any phonebook in any metro area in the US and find 7 hacks. Maybe we should ban yellow page ads too? Get a grip people, come down off your high horse and look around it might reqire lowering the altitude of your noses :)

Maybe it's different where you live. The door knockers around here are a pretty scraggley bunch. They might be great arborists, but they sure don't look like it. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

you and your granma wouldn't have been so lucky overhere ,they would have done the work there and then and took her down the bank and fleeced her out of her every last penny ,then they'd have been off to the next town or area

ok i voted no but perhaps after a storm driving around neighborhoods with signs on truck as long as you charge normal rates is fair right? reason i ask we had ice storm and well maybe make some money tomorrow

i allways work door 2 door but i have signs cards flyers hats all the good stuff and the Lic, to do so i do not presser people in two doing work i tell thim call me win ur ready of call me if u change ur mind

No doubt. There's a company based out of Seattle with an office in Portland. They send salesmen to Salem to knock. I cleared the powerlines as they were loading up. 2" diameter deadwood left in an overthinned 50' Doug-fir with hookmarks. The property owner told us how much she paid, I would have done it right for half that. But it's all about the $ for some. Same co., same neighborhood, A neighbor said they charged a little old lady $1000, cut one limb....from the ground.
I wonder why the company you speak of wasnt named, I know of two of them that do that very thing, that is the least of the transgressions they pull. Oddly, they both donate to the ISA and get listed in their literature. Quite amusing don't you think. Kind of supports the money hungry theory all around dont it?

There are no gooders in any and every industry or trade known to man, including religion and politics. Shoud we be surprised that the tree care industry is not exempt from this?
