Where and when did the ISA condemn door to door selling? I've never heard or read anything like that coming out of Champaign. Can you tell me, even roughly, where you heard/read that?

And...even if someone is a member of the ISA, does that mean that they are one of the "chosen" or "saved" ? There are bums in every organization. Has anyone not done something that might be considered just a little dodgy? No one has any skeletons in the chip truck? I know I do...in the way back days.

i'm in the yellow pages it is just a small ad i don't see nothing wrong by going door-2-door just as long as you have insurance and are not over charging

i always work door 2 door but i have signs cards flyers hats all the good stuff and the Licensed do so i do not presser people in two doing work i tell them call me win ur ready of call me if u change ur mind
Better? :p

I was at an industry meeting about a month ago. Local conference. This one company is in there advertising for tree work. ISA certified, cool. Only 1 small problem. Listed in the advertisement is "topping". The advertisement was in a directory of sorts for landscapers, arborists, dealers, etc. In the directory was a "glossary" of sorts which listed topping as a term, but not in a negative way.

Unprofessional?

"Are you familiar with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z133.1 Standard for tree care practices and do you follow its requirements? The “Z,” as it is reverently referred to by those in the know, has been the standard for tree care safety for 30 years."

There are several treegods here on AS just ask them they would be more than happy to tell you, thats if they could hear you from their lofty perch. :blob5:

I hate door to door anything unless it's girlscouts selling cookies or cubscouts selling popcorn tins. Door to door services raises my eyebrows and makes me think "fly by night". I would ask where's your insurance, where's your place of business, what equipment do you use, etc. If they are door to door, I imagine their '74 1/2 ton office with plywood sides and Wildthing on the dash will be parked in my driveway! But that's just my opinion.
When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, we had door to door salespeople all the time. They would start polishing door knobs or windows then ring the doorbell to sell the latest goop. Gee whiz, if I want something that bad I would go to the store (except for them cookies!) :)

When I ring doorbells, I don't pressure anybody to buy. "Hi, my name is Matt, I am working across the street at Mr. X's house, and I just wanted to come over and introduce myself. If you ever need tree work or other services, here is my card and feel free to give me a call." I remember one time I was working at this place, went across the street to introduce myself. I helped the husband change the blades on his garden tractor, and wound up getting a nice pruning job there a couple years in a row. I've always tried to play the role of the "good kid," "nice young man," or something along those lines. It often times works, sometimes doesn't.

Troll or clueless? My first impression, was that the "m" was a misstroke on the keyboard and he really came here as Stuped-for-life. Given the penchant for misspellings he has. Seeing that he blames his 14 yer old brother for everything, he should thank his brother for the misstroke that added the "m". Trolling or not, soliciting for work in many towns requires you get a permit first to go door to door. They check to see if you have insurance, no insurance, no trolling/soliciting for work. If you do go door to door without the permit the police pick you up and you are fined for soliciting without a permit. Stumping-for-life would have been a better indication of your line of work and would leave no doubt that the "m" belonged in your name. Stumped-for-life is like saying you wish to remain clueless forever. Blaming your brother gives all the impression you are not a responsible person, just a whiner. Your flaming posts indicate you're a troll, looking not for answers but for something to do other than learn. Going door to door may have been alright when you were a kid looking to make a buck mowwing lawns, not today. Tricking out your posts to look like cell phone instant messaging doesn't cut it, sit down and learn to spell or use the spell check. Remaining stupid for life doesn't cut it in the tree buisness world you want to be in, learning new things does. If you're here trolling take a hike. If you're here to learn, stop trying to flame and sit back read and learn. Give us a reason to believe the "m" belongs in your name. "m" as in member of AS not as "m" in misguided troll get lost.
