i'll start. today, at my town's transfer station, i saw three saws in the re-use shed (sometimes they are tossed in the metal pile). two are vintage Homelite XL-12 models (one blue, one red). the other is a vintage, low-production years Poulan 245SA. been cleaning them up. i have few pics. need to take downtime, so i'll post pics, then please feel free to comment/suggest. thx.

They've had one of those Poulan 306A saws at a shop near my home town priced pretty cheap, last time I was in there it was still on the shelf.

245 is the bigger (displacement and fuel tank height) version of the 306a. Piston and cylinders for a 245a are scarce but worth it if you can find them. Even though the saw is kinda heavy and VERY shaky (zero anti-vibe) by today's standards, it's very powerful. I really enjoyed mine when I had it and only sold it because I had too many saws and not enough shelf space.
If you need them, the piston & cylinder for a 306 will bolt directly onto the 245. Smaller displacement, but not bad.

I've owned both 245 and 306 saws, too bad I still don't have at least one. Since I'm older now I'm not buying any more saws other than cheapie flea market fixer uppers.

I picked these 2 044s up for free awhile back. One had a blown top end, the other was a runner, but tired.
I rebuilt them both w/ big bore cylinders. I milled the combustion chambers and bases on them and ported them. I also built muffler covers reminiscent of a bark box and one of them got a Max flow. Also put wrap handles on them(all my saws except my climbing saws have wrap handles.)
They're both really strong runners, they run right alongside my new 500i(not broken in yet) in a 2' log.

One of my best finds, dumped at the curb:
Echo CS-4500. It needed a new fuel cap and two shock mounts from an old John Deere that I found in my boneyard. Good power, good compression, and the 18" bar was in fine condition. No chain brake, but I like this saw.

Was the saw's storage case also in the dump or thrown away at the curb?
