Spring is here, things are drying out and I have had saw withdrawal symptoms for the past 2 months. Rather nice day today so I did some preparation.

Ground the developing mushrooms off of the wedges (3), maul, sledge. Made sure the tools were back in the tool box. Dumped the old mix and made new. Fueled up two saws. REminder to put the 041 on on the bench for a good cleanup. Struggled with the splitter. He is showing his age just like me, rather reluctant to get moving. It was 20 years old last year. Had to prime and managed to flood it, pulled plug which had quite a bit of black 'fuzz' - cleaned that. Reprimed and got it running. Didn't sound all that healthy while I was working up a small (very) pile of spruce off of a co-dominant stem that parted company last fall.

Tried out the new chaps while running the splitter. Looks like they will keed the wood chunks from getting overly familiar with my shins this year. I was dubious about them as they seemed awfully bulky when I put them on but didn't notice them at all while working.

Planning to hit the wood patch in on the next decent day. I figure two days just cleaning up my many burn piles from last season. Probably have to pack in a couple hundred yards though as it is in a bottom and was very wet last week.

Its a nice time to be in the woods isnt it Harry. The wild plum trees are really flowered out around here.
I would bet that you will like those chaps if you have to walk thru much in the way of viney, spiney, briar vines.

You sure are right about feeling good about spring coming and being able to get back out in the woods.

Funny the difference that a week makes. A week ago I thought that spring would never get here. One week later we had some rain and major melting starting.

We have a while to go before there will be any trees flowering but I am just so happy to get a hint that spring is coming.

The Left side is March 9,th, The right side is March 15. One day of really good rain and some sunny days made a huge difference.

Yeah. Up here in SE WA we are in the full throes of a building spring. Snow is all gone (didn't have much to begin with), grass greening up, no new leaves yet but buds are swelling. Daffodils will be opening in another day or two.

Today it is 'run the saw time'. I have a few chunks of cherry that need cutting down to size plus a small pile of knots/crotches left from last year. Ah the smell of exhaust!!. I kind of miss that blue cloud that the old saws put out.

Prep time? Ha! it's the other way around here.. been cutting all winter... 70 yesterday..

Yeah me to Andy seems like I do most of my cutting in the fall and winter.

Got a few brush piles to burn as soon as the wind lays down, and the mud dries enough to get to them.
