Tom or Andy.....shouldn't guy (by Stihl's standards) be stocking more bigger pro saws???

I didn't think a Stihl dealer could get away with just stocking the small homeoner saws!!!

A stihl dealer can stock what he wants (at least in the Stihl NW region). No requirements to stock any particular product. Just language in the agreement to have a suitable stock level.

If the guy has no pro customers, he probably won't stock pro saws... yes... I can see the counter arguement... but.... it is market driven.

Maybe that's because they sold out of the 441's? FWIW, my dealer told me that storm that hit Buffalo in November? possibly had something to do with a 441 Arctic not being available. A 460 Arctic was, but I wanted the 441.

As of Dec 5th, the 441 Arctic is availabe and in stock the NW region. The 440 Arctic has been discontinued...

Rich its all based on the market in your area. One of the great things about Stihl is they don't force you to stock anything, its all up to you. I'm down here in yuppie country and we stock up to the 660 but sell very few of them. Lake on the other hand is out in saw country and probly sells a ton of 660's. Not many city dealers in yuppie country are gonna stock a slew of pro saws when his customers are 99% homeowners. Its all a matter of stocking what moves. Too much money tied up in sitting inventory is no good, gotta go with the market demand in your area.

Couple local guys only stock up to a 440. That is it, not 460's or 660's. They don't have a 441 yet, and wont order one until the 440 is gone. He won't budge on price with the 440...I've tried a couple times, he just wont do it. Got to find a deal like this guy did for just the powerhead. Thall went and sold that last 440 out of his shop out from under me... :hmm3grin2orange:

I started going to a great stihl dealer further away and we have been BS'ing about saws twice now. He has them all in stock and has not sold a 441 yet, one ugly saw IMO. But he says after people demo the saws 440,441,460, they all either buy the 440 or 460 and he always recommends the 460 and even stated himself that he dont like the 441.

We're not in loggerville, so most of our sales are cutting second growth (3rd generation) trees. We only stock up to the 441 or 460. The 660 - we can get them overnight; same with concrete saws. And we only sell maybe 6 660's a year...

O.k., here's the plan. Buy the 440, then wait 7 days and take it back under Stihls "no questions asked policy". By then he'll have a 441 and you can get that one.  This message will self-distruct in 10 seconds:jester:

BTW... You guys shoudn't sweat if a dealer won't give you a "no bar/chain" price. Just sell the bar and chain to an AS member...

We'll nail that message right now, hehe. That policy is a "if the dealer chooses to use that policy". Stihl doesn't force the dealers to abide to it, its strickly up to the dealer and Stihl will back them if they choose to use it. Where I work we have a great policy, out the door and its yours. We will only take it back if there is something wrong with the unit and thats yet to happen. We've only had a few smart guys ask well if I take it home and use it and don't like it can I bring it back. We say no, your not sawing up the tree that fell in your yard and then bringing back the saw after your done, NOPE. I recall one of those guys getting a huge grin across his face after we told him that so we know how that game works. I will admit we did have a woman buy a trimmer for her hubby. They used it for 2 months. She brought it back claiming he, her husband, just didn't like it. It was covered in green slime and boy you talk about fun. She threw a tissy and demanded to speak to the manager. That was her mistake. After he and her went at it for 20 minutes I solved the problem. I took the manager to the side and said lets take back the trimmer and send that b-t-h packing. We took back the trimmer and she doesn't come in anymore, good ridden. Some customers aren't good customers, some are a pita and who needs them, we don't. Too many good folks outthere to be waisting our time with ones like her..
