I've seen guys file a saw in 40 different ways.

What's your's?

I always bore a hole in a small junk hardwood and use it like a vice. Allows 2 hand filing in the woods.

rest on the powerhead pointed up hill, lap the saw on flat ground, prop it against a tree, rest it on a stump, the back of the pick up . . .

I started filing both sides from one position, then i quit logging to go to school so i dont do much filing any more. .

even when i was logging i would keep enough sharp chains that i would just file on a spare bar in a vice at home. and when you have a saw in your hand 8hrs a day you learn how not to put it in the dirt. i would file my landing saw once a day, my felling and limbing saws could go almost a week.

now im in tree work and end up filing on the pickup tailgate. i use my right armpit on the air filter cover to hold the powerhead, and push the bartip into the corner of the bed where the talgate closes.

two hand filing with a guide in both cases.

i just set my saw on the tailgate, point the bar out the back of the truck and go at it.

Under Chainsaw, Alphabeticly by Brand, then by model #.

Sorry I just couldn't resist.

Hopefully with my glasses on .

Right now , hopefully with a sharp file ... . If I,m bushlin or tree thinning I chisel grind ... Now I just round file .usually on the tailgate that I have some lumber screwed to . Hold the bar in my left hand file in my right ... ....I don,t use guides and things
,but a file handle is nice ..As long as I have a sharp file I,m pretty happy .......

.I can file a saw fairly well using the semi Brail method for when I forget my reading glasses , but it gets sharper when I can see the teeth !!!!!!!

I use a gauge; the one Husqvarna makes with the two rollers. For some reason, I have a tendency to file to deep without the gauge. It also helps me to keep my chain cutting straight.

Man, I hear you on the glasses. I'm to the point with the dollar store glasses where I can't get close enough to see the chain well without it going out of focus. I can get a chain real sharp if I can see what I'm doing but the brail method not so good.
