Lets hear from everyone. What do you do if anything to properly break a new saw in? Say for instance do you mix the oil at a higher ratio, do you richen the high end abit, do you tend to run it easier for the first several tanks ?
What about synthetic oils? do you avoid them during initial running so as to let the rings seat.
I did a search on this and came up with nothing. I am purchasing a new 372XP today and want to give it its best chance for a long life. any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Steve

I just run it slightly richer than normally but otherwise i saw just like i would with old saw...

Just use it normally. Obviously don't overly stress it for the first few tanks - like with long hot cuts in big wood with dull chains...

Synthetic? Stihl says that their version (Ultra) is fine from day one. Can't speak for a Husky, but I can't image it's a lot different inside.

Lake,
How much of a problem is their bio-degradable oil gonna be for those of us that buy a large jug but don't use it up for quite a while. Will it "go bad" in the jug over a short while?

Good question. The best answer I got was "if it's not opened it keeps indefinitely, so squeeze out the air after each use". I has a gallon for about 4 months - smells like new to me!.. I'm just buying the 2 gall mix 6 packs after it's all gone.

Run the new saw like its the first new saw ya ever owned, but ya needed to keep your family warm. No high revs out of the cut, Dont try to cut down a Giant Sequoya, but dont be afraid to use it.

Fill'er up with oil and gas, set the chian pretty tight, warm it up a bit, then hold the throttle wide open until it quits running. Then it's good and broken in! :hmm3grin2orange:
