Pro's and Con's of the cold

81... Too hot! It was 54°F when I got home, spent the last 35 minutes of dusk moving logs and clearing branches from a big tree we felled a week or so ago. Was sweating through my t-shirt!

My trees are dropping leaves like crazy and it looks like a snow blizzard of leaves falling.

I just want the ground to be frozen and no snow, and about 20 degrees. PRIMO wood cutting weather. Can get a truck anywhere you need and footing is in general predictable for risky business. No ticks and no foliage to fight. We usually never get that though. Deep snow or mud. Everything soaked and rotten, and buried in snow.

I do like being able to see through the woods without all the leaves blocking the view.
I just spent 2 hours shredding leaves with the lawn mower.

Pros: Ice fishing and having a legit excuse to play with chainsaws, also the all important SAUNA!!!!!
Cons: When you have to plow snow more than once a day because the weather mans 6"- 8" forecast turns into 18"+ thanks to Lake Superior and "lake effect" snow! *@#& YOU Heikki Lunta!!!

Got about 4" from about 3:30 today. Gonna be windy and cold and few more snow showers....oh well

I love late fall and winter. Hunting season, snowmobileing, snow shoeing, cross country sking. Coyotes have nice thick fur and sell for some nice money.
Don't have to set in front of thre fan in my thong all day to stay cool.

Can run the snowblower which I do enjoy doing along with just bladeing the drive.
No bugs to try eatting you and no stinking snakes to surprize you.


cons are having to tell the whiney Mother ((&(&^)(*)_)+()*$EETYU)_ which way south is when they start their miserable it's to cold, roads are icy , thye heatting bill is awful WHINE.

I try to make it a point to remember them in the summer. It's to hot, humidity is horriable, can't drive a couple miles with out a construction slow down or stop to wait on a flag man.
Pools to hot to swim in and if we had AC the bill would be thru the roof.
Sweat is always running in you eyes and worst yet is the creeping red azz, and the chafted gentiala.

Today we have some really nice breathable high tec clothing to wear in the winter. Buddy heaters that are portable and many ways to burn brush in the woods to stay warm.
Try to burn brush in the summer to stay cool.

My Cummins powered truck starts fine down to -25 below with out plugging in. Kubota tractor starts fine to -10 below with out plugging it in also.
I buy winter blend diesel so it shouldn't jell but I also runn diesel suplement in the winter also.

How many of you like the cold and how many hate it and why.

About the only pro for me is food does not spoil as fast and firewood sales are good.
My list of con's is long.
I don't like to shiver.
I don't like that my hands, fingers, ears and feet get cold and it can be very painful when you bust a knuckle.
I don't like having to winterize everything.
It tends to kill car battery's and diesel fuel can jell up and you have to have a block heater just to keep it ready to go.
When snow hist the ground, yard work stops and you have to shovel snow all the time.
Water freezes and my animals can't drink ice so I have to break the ice or take them some fresh water.
When it ices up you can't drive anywhere and it tends to tear up the trees form the weight.
Power goes out because of iced up power lines.
You have to dress in layers and that makes it harder to move around, and it makes for more laundry.
Having to take warm close in the car in case you get stranded.
Heating the house drys up the air and makes my sinuses dry up or when I go outside my nose constantly runs.
I could go on and on but I will stop here and let everyone else chime in.

So sorry for your woes..., we on the other hand tend to see everything "half full".

Good for the heating, mechanical industry.
The sales of lotion, pain killers, and bandaids are up.
The sale of winterized additives increases.
Block heaters and battery sales go up.
Snow shovel manuf/sales and entrepreneur companies increase.
Manf./sales of heated water dishes goes up.
Roofers and tree service companies flourish.
Linemen hone their trade skills.
The sales of clothing, laundry soap, and laundry equipment increase
Auto suspension and alignment specialists prosper and EMS services are not taxed.
Powder-post & wood-bore beetles may reach the end of their life cycle.
I could go on and on but I will stop here and let the other "half-fullers" that have nothing else to do chime in.

I just hope the cold gets here! It's shaping up to be like last winter, rain every couple days. Not just showers off and on, but 1"+, then a day of wind to start drying things out, day of sun to get your hopes up and then rain again. I don't really care about getting wet but it's tough to bring equipment out in it.

All the things you mentioned are seasonal sales related so it flips to summer related sales products when the seasons change to summer related sales.
A/C industry takes the place of the heating industry.
Linemen still hone there skills year round. Summer storms and wind still knock out power lines.
Less long term power outages.
Not having to stock up on supply encase you get snowed in.
Roofers and tree work are also a year round industry.
Auto related work is still a year round industry.
In summer many construction company's finally start projects that they can't do in the winter.
Road crews can do work in the summer that they can't do in the winter cold.
Summer work is easier to do in warmer weather.
Farmers can start planting and growing summer seasonal foods.
Fresh local summer foods are plentiful.
More people die from winter cold exposure then they do in the heat.
Landscapers and lawn care industry makes more money.
Wild life has more food to eat and raise there young.
Summer sports are more numerous and take the place of winter sports.
Woman look better in summer close then they do in winter close.
Seems there is more work getting done in summer then winter.
Not being snowed in and getting cabin fever from being stuck indoors.
Not having to always keep carrying cold weather gear when traveling in case you get stranded.
Park services increase there businesses.
Your hands and finger work better in worm weather and you don't get frost bite.

Me too, I'm wondering why we are burning wood. It seems that our wood pile keeps being consumed despite the fact it's not bitterly cold with snow on the ground.

Yup, and I like to move next years wood into the shed as this years is removed, can't put crap in because it's all wet! I feel like the wood stove is just a big, fancy dehumidifier!
