Looks to be in good shape. I would pull the muffler if possible, but for $100 I dont think you can go wrong on that one! Good deal!

Offer him $80 CASH....

I'd be jumpin' on that like a horsefly on a plump tourist, regardless of the comp, fire the pup up and you should be able to tell a whole lot right off the bat imho. Then pull the cover, go OMG!!!!!, hem-haw 'Dat the least you'll take, I really needs a parts saw, hmmmmmm.' :D

Good luck Haywire and let us saw junkies know how it goes (pics be good as ya well know!)

Serge

It is not a 046, looks more like a 045 or 041? but for $100.00 it is a probably a good deal.

Ok, if the compression test and pulled muffler suggests it's in decent shape, it's coming home. I'll feel a lot better about slapping a mill on that $100 saw than on the new EHP372.

Ian

P.S. Dusty, you've got your 395. You wouldn't begrudge little ol' me an 046 would ya? ;) I'll let ya borrow it sometime if you promise not to put straight gas in it. hehe.

My vote is that its a 041 and for a hundred buckeroos it better be cherry... And to even get a peekeroooo at the piston requires major disassembly..

That is not an 046...not even close. But it will work good on a mill. NOT great but OK.

For $100 who cares if it runs its worth more than that in parts!

No doubt. The 041 is a GREAT saw and a lot of fun to use.

Gonna be pretty hard to pull the muffler on though.

How do people think that's an 046?

LOOK at it. If you look at it how could you think it's an 041?

I did LOOK at it, and I do not think it is a 046, the original poster was TOLD that it was a 046 in the opening post. I identified it as a 045 or 041 in the fourth post of the thread, and that has been comfirmed in some of the other post on the thread.

Here's how the story finished up. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep and finally Yep.

Yep, it's an 041, not an 046 unfortunately.

Yep, it started right up with no hesitation.

Yep, it had good compression at 145lbs

Yep, my bank account is short $80,

and.... Yep, it's in the back of my truck at the moment. :monkey:

Bah....

I have a 041 Super with chain brake and am very happy with it. I don't know how the farm boss compares to the super but I would think it is close to being the same saw? I developed a soft spot for older Stihls!
Funny how they learn to jump in the back of a pickup!
