Well... it needs new rubber grips on the handle bar.
It needs (wants) and new aluminum label on the filter cover...
and the cast base that the air filter sits on is cracked 9 1110 141 0802.. the stud that the top cover screws to is wobbly.
and it needs a new air filter 1110 120 1601

are these parts likely still available or am I looking for used stuff from a parts saw?

Ian

Edit... just noticed that the filter cover is cracked too... 9 1110 084 0604

I have a 041 Super with chain brake and am very happy with it. I don't know how the farm boss compares to the super but I would think it is close to being the same saw? I developed a soft spot for older Stihls!
Funny how they learn to jump in the back of a pickup!

Super is ~72cc vs. 61cc for the a/v and farm boss.

Here's how the story finished up. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep and finally Yep.

Yep, it's an 041, not an 046 unfortunately.

Yep, it started right up with no hesitation.

Yep, it had good compression at 145lbs

Yep, my bank account is short $80,

and.... Yep, it's in the back of my truck at the moment. :monkey:

Bah....
Ian

Lolol, not 'Bah' Ian but baaaaaaaaa, that'd be the sheep running from yer new saw, personally I think it'll be worth the work (yes I read the following post btw) and I understand that they are a good mid-range work saw, keep us curious types posted eh! Shoul;d be a bunch o' parts kickin' around from the regular mems me thinks, 80beans, hm, *green face* :D

 (you need more sawwwwwwwwws............you need more sawwwwwwws.........you need more sawwwwwwwwwwwws) < a wee mantra fer ya :D

My dad has the same 041 FB for over 30 years. He bought it new, has ran the crap out of it, it's been run over twice and it looks like hell... yet it refuses to quit.

Have fun with it!

Checked it over this morning and it needs a new chain tension adjustment screw and the plastic chip deflector also.

I made a couple cuts in a 10" sycamore log I had on hand and I now have a new respect for the anti-vibe system that my 346 and 361 have. Two cuts without gloves and my hands were tingling. A pair of gloves made a big difference. I can't see running that thing for any length of time without a pair of those gel palmed anti-vibe gloves.

Haha....wuss!:D

My dad's has been missing the handle grip for some time and he normally cuts without gloves. He only complains about his after he uses my 441.

You probable also have a newfound respect for torque.
