I'm snooping around for a wheeled stump grinder to use in areas I can't use my carlton 8018 Ideally I'd like a 7015. How do the rayco rg50's rate? I'm assuming they are considerably slower than a 7015 because of the smaller motor and hydraulic drive. Are they still faster than 35 hp belt drive machine? Do they have any weaknesses or things to watch out for? Thanks.

I have recently worked on an RG50

I have recently seen a 2004 RG50 after about 1,400 hours. The only concern I saw was that the fuel tank is welded and part of the main frame. This causes an issue because the rear parts of the frame where the large drive wheels mount are not supported very well and bend, allowing the tires to tilt inward and rub on the frame. This causes stress cracks and in this situation the stress cracks were on the fuel tank and the tank was leaking fuel. cracks are extremely hard to repair and to try and keep from getting worse. Luckily I had sucess. I am impressed with the Bandit stump grinders. They seem to be built to withstand more abuse and have a lot of cool features. Good luck

also count on replacing or rebuilding the hydro pump every year or two... only about 600.00 to do so.
This machine eats huge hardwood stumps in minutes, and can get into a 36" opening.

They are very heavy and with only single wheels, will leave ruts. also, are very prone to tipping over when running singles. you almost HAVE to run the duals so you do not get stuck, or turn it over.
Hydraulic drive system on any stump grinder eats HP compared to a belt driven wheel. It will take every bit of the 50HP, to equal the cutting capability of a 35HP belt driven machine.
Solid built machine, but overall, kind of heavy and clumsy to manuever.
