china really? and this administration wonders why theres no jobs. they got any timber over there?
on second thought I believe much of our hard wood grade goes over seas. there is something wrong with this pitcure

:monkey:
Export logging to China has been around long before "this administration" assumed office, and if none of the timber went overseas, the US logging industry would really be on its last boot string - if it would even still be going.

Be glad someone is buying logs.

Besides China, logs have been exported in the past to Turkey and Japan. Rumor has it that Japan sunk logs into a bay somewhere to store them. Rumor.

The export market kept some logging companies from going out of business during the recent slow times.
Out here, "Everybody is Logging", the mill has a NOW HIRING banner out front, and things are much better, or so I hear.

Now, it is against the law to export logs that come off Forest Service and our state lands. However, logs off private lands are sold to the highest bidder, domestic or foreign.

I know that fw, late and mind foggy. jus seems like so much stuff ya buy made there is a shame can't be more domestic products. I been makin a effort to buy usa, its hard to do. I am very disappointed in govmt. in general tho.

The shame here is that old growth is still logged, albeit at a reduced rate now, chipped and sent to Japan for pulp.

Sad but true.

Having said that it has enabled the timber industry to survive, but with a huge question mark over the heads of loggers and workers for many years now as it's been such a divisive use of timber in this country.
Hopefully there's more certainty for the timber industry now and the environmentalists seem to be more pacified with current and pending legislation.

Tough times for all.

Good to hear your still about and kicking Andy, hopefully things improve for you a little.

I only mentioned you (although not by name) the other day in the chainsaw forum and was wondering how you and the Romeo were and funnily enough never, ever come in here as I'm not a pro's arsehole. :D

I've got to be a little more carefull here. Things are not going bad at all. I'm staying buisy, bills are paid, I don't owe anyone on my equipment, if there's any ass chewing going on at one of my jobs, I'm doing the chewing...Shoot man, I'm livin' the dream. I had a little deture in my business plan innitiated by the county commission, but I've alway's enjoyed a good scrap.
Life is a series of starting over, and I've decided to enjoy the ride!

Yup. When somebody asks "what exactly do you do in the woods" and your answer is "well, what day are we talking about?" :msp_confused:
