So I didn't listen to the whole thing... Why clone them? last I heard there was still a whole bunch of living versions in some place called "Redwood National Forest" (its early may have the name off a bit). Sounds like a whole bunch of money thrown away on a pointless project. Besides don't they realize that young growing trees sequester more carbon than old growth, or are they still in denial?

I did like the part where the dude only planted 2 and gave up because its to cold and wet...

Towards the end, the reporter kind of hints that maybe the unit should not have been cut because a world's biggest Doug fir could have grown there. I guess we now grow trees to set records? :( Another screwed up message about forestry.

And how much was spent on cloning a tree that still exists? Couldn't they find something more beneficial... like say alternative energy, or feeding crack babies, or like maybe supporting local economy, or buying a large dose of NyQuil and solving all of our problems.

I went back and listened to all of it...

Cloning a Redwood is no big deal, they do it all by themselves, without any help.

Even if it DID need help... the technology is far from new:
