I thought it might be neat if a sticky could be added to the top of this forum which contains a reference chart of chainsaw brands so for example people would know which brands are actually made by the same company (perhaps it could link to another page on this site that contains a simply html table). It could also contain other reference information on historic companies such as the years they operated etc...

For example from search on Google I've found that McCullough and Troy-Built are listed under the manufacturer MTD Southwest, Inc. However on McCullough paperwork MTD is strictly listed as a importer, thus they are likely just a front company (perhaps this information could also be listed). I've also seen the brand name MTD but am uncertain if this is same company. Another example is Poulan, which is listed as being manufactured by Electrolux. Then there are other brands I've never heard of, such as Solo, which appears to be possbile another consumer brand in the lines og McCullough and Troy-Built.

No I have used solo products before and they are more high quality then tro bilt or mcculloch they are made about 30 miles from me in New port news. The only problem is they don't have an actual dealer for around 50 miles so I could not get parts or service for the equipment I had.

The "Name" game they are playing is too crazy to try to chart.
Some saws with the name "Snapper" are just entry level Poulans. Ryobi, which is
owned by MTD, is really getting strange. Home Depot is selling stuff with Ryobi
decals, that are made by Electrolux/AYP. The McColluch brand is different
depending on what country you are in.
It is hard keeping up with all of it.

The best thing is to call Solo HQ in the US. They are great about sending the parts you need. They have parts charts on their current saws. I think you can get them off the Internet, then just figure out what you need, and order it straight from Solo. Anyone who thinks Solo is on a par with Troy-Built or Poulan should try out a 651P next to a 346xp or 260 pro.

Please remember the yearning idiots when making these types of posts.

When thrown from basic math to encryption, my brain has to double-clutch. This slams my Western Hemispherical against my skull.

Thank you.

Should you care to rephrase that statement it would be greatly appreciated, as I value your opinion.

When your brain stops colliding with your skull, tell me what part you are having trouble with, and I'll try to rephrase it . Perhaps you could diagram the sentence, and point out what confuses you.

If there is anything in that sentence that you disagree with, let me know what it is specifically, not that I care, but I do want to be friendly.

It isn't the collision it's the abrupt stop.

What do you really think about Solo?
I've seen a couple, big old bruisers. I always wondered why not so many.

Who stopped? I merely paused to remember what I was thinking about when I started.

I don't know much about the bigger Solos. They offer a two year commercial warranty, and from the little I've heard, they mean it. Solo went all out to make the 651p king of the 50cc hill, kind of like Dolmar making the 7900. Maybe they will introduce a new big saw now that Dolmar has their 5100 out. I don't know why you don't see more Solos over here. For some reason Solo hasn't put a lot of effort into marketing in the US. If you are interested in getting a Solo, you should talk to Tony M.

I think Solo is so far underated it is stupid. They can compete with the best and when I move my little shop into town, I am going to consider being a dealer.
