Well I have seen the term there is no replacement for displacement on here. I am not sure when that term came about, but I have heard it refered to the muscle car era when the big blocks came out. It was to boost how much better a bigger engine would be.
But, displacement is not what counts. Torque, hands down. A high torque engine will eat a big displacement engine alive. Take the 5.9 cummins to a 7.3 power stroke. Lot of size differnce there, but true they turn teh cummins a little faster . Still they can get just as much if not more from it then the V8. I have a 7.3 now in a 91. Had a 6.2 GM in the past. But, the meanest engine I have every drove was a I6 300 ford. It ate chevy 350 and would I think hold its own againts this monster 7.3 I have now.
That is why I look at saw specs when I am thinking about buying one. Trying to find a long stroke engine to get the best torque out of it.
What is the best torque saw out there?

I'm sorry it's just my family is die-hard chrysler fans. My uncle drives a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. He wouls have gone with a 2500 series with a cummins but could not pass up the deal that he got on the truck. My Van is a 91 Plymouth Grand Voyage SE. My mom is odd, she went with the ford escort. I have to say though, it is a nice car.

the one i was allways fond of (becuase i was a chevy man till my first ford). Fix Or Repair Daily

Ford's I6 a torquemonster?

Really?

I have a couple of them, and while they will stomp the typical 283/307 chevy into the weeds in first and second, that's about it.
Try to rev one past 5500 repeatedly and the bottom end flies out of them too...

Torque is a measurement of force, period. Horsepower is force applied over time. "Torquey" usually means the engine has a nice flat torque curve, You can feel it pulling hard at all rpm levels. A highly modified engine will have plenty of torque too, but you need to do your part to keep it in the powerband.

On to two-strokes, like in chain saws: Modern two strokes are just not "torquey" in the sense you're looking for...you gotta pay attention and keep 'em in the powerband. That said, though, some are a tad bit better than others. Believe it or not, the consumer/semipro saws are often ported a little more consevartively for easier use by less-experienced operators. Husky 365, for example.

Powerstroke is an International Harvester motor last I heard it

Have to respect the Dodge machines from the day, new ones, could care less since the merger/buyout

MOPAR

mostly old parts and rust

Yep.  Navistar diesels in them Fords.  Great motors!

Not my personal veiw. But something I heard durring the clasic Ford vs. Chevy arguments.

Powerstrokes are nice trucks, but I like my Dodge Cummins.
I guess I'd rather be cummin than strokin.

At work we got a new F450 with the nice powerstroke engine. made it 8.5 miles down the road and Boom there went the radiator hose. The dealer even knew it had a bad clamp and still let us take it. I don't think the 9' plow on the front helped any as they crused down I-90 from Bufflo,NY.

I like Ford trucks very much. They look nice and have even better durability IMO.

On 2 stroke engines, there's no replacement for displacement when power is required.

Madsaw, I'll try and get this thread back on topic for you :p I'm also curious to know which saws have the most torque....stricktly stock.

How about the 90G? Lotsa torque there! You may find that after you carry that torque around for a while, you will change your mind and decide other things need to be considered. Kind of like comparing a .458 Win. Mag to a 7mm Rem. Mag. I guess you could say the.458 had more torque, but it wont do everything better.
Torque in a chainsaw is good for ground cutting stumps where pulling a dull chain is a given. Torque is good for people who don't sharpen their chains. Lol! I guess If you are running extremely long bars and big wood a torque biased saw would be good but it sure isnt where you are doing a lot of limbing or cutting smaller wood: RPM rules there!

My friend's 7.3 engine had the same problem. The lower clamp was always rattling loose and leaking. Kept tightening it, just kept coming loose. A brand-new one solved the problem. Maybe some loctite, too.

I do like the Fords, though. Ticked my friend off the other day to have his Binder (old name for International) pull started by a Ford pickup. :D Didn't take long for him get it going.

I had two friends buy the new 6.0 fords this year and both of them had the motors blow with less than 5,000 miles!!!

ryan there have been some problms with the chips in some of them but i got a good one. bought it end of feburary, and have about 13000 miles and it runs great.

There's no replacement for displacement came from the mucle car era when MOPAR was king of the street, and ford was trying to keep up with their wanna be hot rod mustystangs. The only good vehicle in my point of veiw that ford ever came out with was the ones that they teamed up with Carol Shelby and designed them. I am a diehard MOPAR guy, and I spit in the face of any Ford guy, but chevy's are ok as far as engines can be concerned.

We have a 2003 Dodge with the older style body, packs a 6 cylinder Cummins High Output Diesel in it, fully turboed, and we may get a compound dual turbo kit for it. Then it will have 500+HP at the wheels, that means that there may be like 750-800HP in the engine. Then more performance stuff - Banks Diesel Performance Co. makes a specially designed exhaust kit for it, and now your definatly at 800 HP or above.

The only way ford is claiming that they have more low end tourque with their newer trucks is with their gearing, yeah sure it may out pull a dodge with a HEMI in it, but it cant go over 60 mph with them gears. Our Ram can pull that much at 85mph. It will keep up with the big rigs on the highways and interstates. Bar none.

Saw with the most torque eh? MOst definatly an 090G, but with does weigh a lot, and they dont make them anymore. So the question should be: What current production saw has the most tourque? Or maybe: Which current production saw has the most horsepower?

Good question.
