Question on the Safety Helmets. The guy that I work with thinks that the regulations here in Washington state require the Orange safety helmets while we are Chipping and such. I can either get the bright green ones or the orange. Both have ear muffs and wire face shield. And are there any brands to stay away from? Thanks for you input

a little off topic but for what its worth.. up here if we have yellow or orange raingear its considered safety wear, if its green it aint. used to get an exemption from sales tax if it was safety wear but I dont think we do anymore. If your regs state anything about visibility you probably should go orange. I find my red hardhat is harder to lose if left somewhere, lawn, brush pile, etc compared to a green one.

You'll get a better answer if you contact your state OSHA office directly. I'll bet that you could even do it on line.

It would be a shame to base your actions on an opinion instead of talking to the regulatory agency directly.

There are specific ANSI regs that need to be met in order for a helmet to qualify. I've never read anything about color though. That could be a state issue.
