## # Brought my saw(MS390) into the shop over a month ago because I thought my bar oiler wasn't working properly. He had it for almost a whole month(waiting for parts) and then told me he was not sure if he was able to fix it because he said the last person to work on the saw used a pneumatic wrench and it would possibly destroy the saw for him to access the oil pump. After all that time I just asked for the saw to be returned to me. And yes, I was charged. Not too worried about that because I'm sure he actually did his best.#
## # I took the saw home. Downloaded the manual for my saw to see if I can fix it myself which I should have done in the first place. Turns out the holes on the bar where the oil enters is completely caked as thick as beeswax. Cleaned the entire bar out. Thought my problem was over. #
## # I did that a 10:00 pm. The next morning I tried to fire up my saw and found out there was no spark plug. He forgot to put it back in. Bought a new one that morning. Wouldn't start. My saw has never had a problem with the engine. Always starts like clockwork. 4 pulls at full choke and it turns over. 5'th pull at half choke and then its all good. Compression is good at#110. #
## # My problem is that I brought it back and he can't get it started. Been there for more than a few days there again. How would you deal with a guy like this? I got it serviced there a few months ago for my oiler and he blew out the lines and adjusted the oiler on the bottom of the saw. Possibly nothing wrong with the oil pump just needed to be cleaned. I'm into this for about $200 so far and I'm still out a saw. What would you do? I need my saw back.#Sorry if hash marks appear on this post. It did last time I posted and I don't know how they get there.

I wanna make sure I follow first, so

You have an oiler issue with an otherwise working 390, take it to the shop and its there for a month with no repair because of a clogged bar groove? You got charged for no repair because the repair guy says he is afraid he will ruin your saw trying to get to the oiler (because the last guy working on the saw (at same shop) used a air ratchet?

So you took the saw back again?

2 things, I don't know what you think your 390 is worth, but I personally think you are in the red on this saw at this point. I know that doesn't help, but that saw in a not running condition isn't worth $200.

2nd thing, shame on them for the first time, shame on you for the second time. Carry yourself back over there and demand your fixed saw (tested by you) or a hunk of money back, or your broken saw and all of your money back.

Reason why its not OK to charge someone for a not fixed saw, a saw shop is a business for profit justified only because they offer a service, you received no service (tried or not) so owe them no money. You still are short a saw, so check your gib, and then smile first, then get down right ill with the owner!

Just mine, if I understand correctly, I do feel this is a winning opportunity to get your panties all twisted!

I'd go get the saw and find a new saw shop. I'd bring it to an authorized dealer. A great guy at the saw shop makes buisness run smoother.

Thanks Harrison for the reply. Let me clarify. I brought my saw in to the shop originally for the lube issue. I brought it back because he took the spark plug out and didn't replace it and now my saw won't start. I have no idea what he did because my saw ran perfectly before. I'm not planning on paying for returning it this time that's why I went back again. The $200 figure is about $175 in service and $25 in gas driving my truck back and forth to the shop checking if its fixed.

Uh Oh!

Sounds like he may have gutted your plastic to fix another saw, tried to hold you off until he could either find a fix for yours or hope that you'd sell him yours cheap, since it was "questionably unfixable" per him. But you wanted it back, so he threw what he had laying around into your plastic and here you both are. Hope that's not the case, but sounds like it to me. Not a reputable shop at all in my opinion. Good Luck!

I am inclined to agree with above "PROBABLY".

I still see $175 in shop labor/ materials as a joke. What was replaced, I can't see more than an hour in cleaning bar, replacing pump and checking the tune while checking the oiler.

Whats their shop labor? If it's a reputable dealer then call Stihl!

I would still get 3/4 red faced, talk to owner, call BBB and maybe stay till after closing to get my money back. I don't know what your calling a perfect running saw, but they owe you your saw in usable condition + some $ back
