I've been using 2 different types of 3/8" (.375") Stihl chain on my saw:

1. 33RM2 "green" chain on stumps and more gritty conditions

2. 33RSC "yellow" chain in cleaner conditions

Can anyone tell me what file(s) I need to sharpen these chains?

The paper that Stihl included with one of the chains seems to say that both chains need a 13/64" ROUND file to sharpen. But the Bailey's website seems to say that I need a different type of file for the 33RSC chain, specifically, a file that sort of has "corners" on it like this:

http://store.baileys-online.com/cgi-bin/baileys/27?mv_session_id=6tRf26IY&product_sku=15015

Can anyone clue me in on what type(s) of files I need for these chains?

Thank you.

For filing round grouned chisel (RSC) or semi-chisel (RM2), the normal 13/64" (5.2 mm) round files are the correct ones. Some people prefere 7/32" (5.5 mm), which also works well.

The files in the link is for square ground chain, or for converting round ground chisel into square ground. Square chisel will cut faster than round ground chisel if done correctly (not too easy), but will also loose their edge faster.

By the way, RM (semi-chisel) is availiable without the safety staps. The regular RM will cut faster than RM2.

rsc33

i have been using the rsc33 on my saw and file with 7 32 on bench file guide, works great. i saw that they used to make a rs loop bougth is not available anymore except on ebay.
