Saw has thrown the sprocket e-clip/washer TWICE! Why?

Yes; the Stihl e-clips are thicker, and I noted when changing my sprocket that the e-clip was bent slilghtly. They fit very snug and it's hard for me not to bend them.

The C-QS models, with the secondary brake AND the no-tool chain adjust, have a different brake band, and the drum is evidently a different diameter, so it's not compatible with the above kit, according to my parts list. It takes drum sprocket that's specific to these two.

True the parts manual does say that but my saw has or had the tool-less chain adjuster and the secondary brake and it has a rim sprocket. Given that there is a common clutch used on all models I doubt the drums would be a different diameter.

Phil

Could someone be a dear and mic up a genuine Stihl E clip thickness for me please ?

I'm curious what the difference is to a 'standard' industrial E clip.
I take it they are 8mm ? to suit an 8mm groove ?

FWIW I just buy E clips by the packet from my bearing/industrial supplies wholesaler for my Dollies.
No problem with running them.

Don't start the saw with the sprocket off.

Does it have a rim sprocket?

Yeah ask me how I know,,, The clutch carrier will turn the shoes loose, Quick fast and in a hurry!!! and it can wreck the saw/brake band assembly/oilpump etc.... it is really quite dangerous:msp_thumbdn:

I don't accept them at all, they were forced upon me against my will :(

Because of that I won't walk down my shed and measure a Stihl circlip for you...

Geeze Matt, you're making it sound like you've been visiting the AS Glory Hole now :msp_scared: (and we need a Blue Oyster Bar smiley for Matt :D)

and trying to get this out of where I was heading.......

I just micced a standard industrial E clip and it measures .039" for all you non metricated dudes over yonder.

Thanks Rick. I was worried that this thread was being denigrated and hijacked ;)

Just past the pygmy dart removal service tent, IIRC...

That's right around 1mm. Shoot, the spare I have is the same, and I'm remembering now I got it at the dealer in a little Stihl pouch. I know it's not just one out of the hardware store bin. Now I'm :???: . I suppose I could go down to the dealer with my caliper, and ask to see one on the shelf.

Update: the bag-o-10 on Bailey's site specifically lists it as 1.3mm, which is about .050" in American money. Sounds like it might actually be thicker than the one the dealer peddles.

Thanks Rick. I was worried that this thread was being denigrated and hijacked ;)
Hijacked, yeah. Denigrated, no. This is the most fun I've had getting a thread hijacked in a long time....
