Hello all, I have an Vermeer SC252 that is starting to show a little play in the boom arm (side to side play, not in the sweep). Looking up underneath the unit, I can see the pin holding it all together. My question is, are there replacable bushings/pin or is this unit simply wearing out? I like to take good care of my equipment, so I'd like to get this fixed before it causes more damage. Thanks!

I dont no much about the particular unit your describing but as a suggestions...to something i would.

I would call your local Vermeer Dealer, and try and talk to one of the mechanics over the phone.

I am sure they will have the most insight for you.

My sc252 does the same thing lots of play left to right..not running...I can move by hand at least 4 to 5 inches. I looked at ears that rams connect into and looks like the pin is wearing out? Or is there bushings in there and how important are they? Thankyou

I dont know for sure about vermeer, but most machinary has bearings or pins that are replaceable. My rayco did that, and i replaced the bearings, and it didnt do it anymore.

Ok thanks,....where is the vin located or how do I tell what year it is? I believe I MIght have Been lied too when purchased it

I dont know on vermeer. I have a rayco 1625a sjr. I would suguest looking in the manual. It should tell you where the vin is located at.

I looked all over could not find vin, been looking at them online and have not seen anything older than a 2010 with straight controls on the top of box, rather than on the side and being at an angle. Anyone know if that is a new thing to the 2010 model or do older sc252 come with controls on top?

2008 was first year with levers on top. I believe that is when they started with the operator presence sensors in the levers too. VIN tag would be on the frame near the steering wheel, where the square tubing emerges from under the machine. If it has a single rubber latch holding the cover over the gas tank down I believer it is a 2002 or newer. If it has two metal latches holding it down it is older than that.

Look at other threads about replacing those two bushings. The shaft can be a pain to remove, although when I did it it tapped right out. Kind of a trick to hold the boom upright, requires a chain hoist and bracing the cutter wheel in the vertical position. Have fun.

Get a Service and Parts Manual from Vermeer, all your questions will be answered. It's worth it if you plan on keeping the machine awhile.

Thanks for the help I located the year and ordered the bushings, thanks again

Where is the plug for the auto sweep? It can easily be unplugged correct?

Not sure about your 2010, they may not have put a two-wire plug on them like they did the earlier models, seems like that's what I heard. Ask to talk to one of the mechanics at your dealer, and again, invest in a service manual when you pick up those bushings.....
