First thing this morning, the Scary Tree was brought down. The two guys who are the main fallers for us, and also open up the motorized trails, came up with me. After a short discussion, they decided it could be done from the stump. He cut a notch in the stump, it popped loudly and his partner whooped and yelled, "That's what we wanted to hear!" Then it looked like he put another notch in it. The after it was down discussion revealed that he then bored in and tickled it (there was a lot of popping) till it went. It came out of the trees and landed kersplat on the road.

They used their little 026. They said the fairies turned them off from using Twinkle.

Bet you are re-leaved that you don't have to drive under Scary Tree anymore :hmm3grin2orange: As for your fallers all I can say is Great Job

looks like the guy in the third pick has an eye to the sky, something spooky up there?:monkey:

Yes. The scary tree was hung up enough in a tree up the hill to have that tree under some pressure--bent back. It was also in a snag. They discussed trying to domino fall all three but the guy not sawing looked at it from all angles and said he thought it was doable from the road--notch and roll. So, that's what they did. The guys have been working together longer than a lot of marriages--25 years.

It might look a little busy next to the Log Trucks Run Off The Road tally. Besides, I didn't cut it down. :greenchainsaw:

Hahaha... Dang, how many "log truck run off the road" tally marks you got?

And it doesn't matter if you cut it down... Finders keepers. ;)

slowp, you must drive that f.s. green like a madman to command a 90,000 pound semi navigated missle to the roadside!impressive whats your secret?:jawdrop::monkey:

I drive a white one with a huge oversized chrome bumper on the front--a bumper that probably reflects massive amounts of sunlight into their eyes, and it was an icy day and the young truck driver should have had his trailer chains on. It was one of our West Coast little tiny log trucks. :)

I think there are wagers on how long the massive low riding Chevy front bumper will last. The license plate is already bent.
:monkey:

aahhh, chrome bumper this must just be one of your many weapons in your bid for total world domination!one log truck at a time...lol i was laughing the other day about your blue flagging, well the tree markers around here use sometimes what i would consider excessive flagging on their unit boundary,so when i am cutting i am always a little bit punchy anyways, like a bird will fly overhead and cast a shadow or the sun will go behind a cloud and i'm always cringing thinking damn this is gonna hurt,so the movement of the flagging spooks me on a regular basis,my hatred of flagging grows as i once again lower my heart rate...

I'm near sighted, and won't wear glasses in the woods. So, since the rule of flagging is, always hang one up where you can see the last one, mine are close. And, since my main job is making sure nobody strays beyond that flagging, I'm one of those people you probably hate.

The loggers up here have to lay out their skid trails and yarder corridors so I can mark the extra trees for their construction. Most now know that I'm near sighted, so you'd also be dealing with that flagging too. What with the slug survey plots, the riparian reserve limits, the timber cruise plots, and every hunter hanging flagging, it can be a real mess out there.

Don't worry, the fallers get my fear going by using their DANGER TREE flagging to mark the easy trails for walking into the unit, or a tree for me to mark. Then I'm seeing it and thinking, "What am I not seeing that is dangerous?"
Flagging can and cannot be our friend.

haha, true that give and take,im gonna have to get some of that danger flagging theres some fun to be had there,as far as thtree marking crew they are a really fun bunch definately not their fault im so punchy, keeps the blood flowing

Mate, there's some scary windthrow around our forest. Real scary, hangups, teepees, all sorts.

Pretty tough situation in the settings we are in at the moment too. Small, and some real nasty hangups with no driving trees around either. Doing a lot of backpulling with the yarder.

Scary work cutting under a hangup.

oops, did I say that.... :taped:

:help:
