It was my first saw, and I really do have an irrational attachment to it...
Maybe its because no one else around here has one, but it has been a
good saw. I really just want my old saw back... fixed. Keep me in mind if
you locate parts. Just post a message here in this thread. thanx.

I need to know what broke when it seized.....I have parts saws as do others here...if you have that dealer fix it (I do not recommend it) have him make a list of parts and make sure he checks the crank play and before he tears it down have him do a crankcase pressure/vacuum check on it

yeah...doesnt appear to have grenaded but is siezed. So i'm thinkin', jug, piston, wrist pin needle bearings and gaskets to say the least. It sounds like the saw is gonna have to go see another doctor. If its not too bad, then
may try some home remedy. I'm just so PO'd I could spit!!!

Anybody got a cherry Dolmar 112 they wanna sell????? One o' them shiny silver ones would be nice!!!!:bang:

Dolmar bad service???

I would call the factory and complain. Dolmar has a reputation to re-build after they opened/closed up shop here in the US. You could also maybe post the guy's address and email address... er, in case someone wanted to send him a nice card or email from the Forum. ;)

Also... er, the local Stihl/Husky buzz saw dealer here actually does the opposite kind of stuff. My girlfriend took in a badly broken Stihl brushcutter that I thought was blown and hopelessly beyond repair and he got it working. Then she took in the MS 290 when it would not start, and he got that working in a jiffy too (broken fuel line that was very small and subtle).

You mentioned that he turned it down. Does that mean he richened the carb to bring the RPM down? Or did he turn the High screw down? Misses can be caused by a saw warming up and start drawing air through a gap when things swell. The fact that you could catch it and keep it running lends me to the thought that it was most likely a vacume leak.
Any how I have a 112 here that has a bad coil in it. If you want it I will cut you a sweat deal on it.

T

Dealer said it started and revved immediately to 18k, he turned it down, and ran it with throttle lock on for 10 min. prior to seizing per his report.

i'm new to this whole saw thing, but if someone took any tool of mine, duct taped the throttle wide open for 10 minutes, then blamed me cuz she blew up, I'd slap the person.

That just seems ignorant to me.

Ask for the keys to the mechanics car, go out and put a brick on the throttle, and wind her to redline for 10 minutes. See if the mechanic comes out and moves the brick.

Spoke with the saw owner on the phone

Out of inexperience the tech did the next worst thing....he let it run for ten minutes on the cold start high idle click unloaded. One thing chainsaws HATE is to run one constant speed with no load or a constant light load.
The owner is currently in the process of investigation to find out what caused the seizure.

The tech left it running on the hi idle click to see if he could get it to lose spark after heating up (the saw has the typical intermittent coil problem most common on this series Dolmar)

He may very well find crank failure due to lack of lubrication from running the saw that way

FINAL CHAPTER has been written: Started teardown, lower/main is cooked, crankcase is cracked, jug scored

Der MotorSagen ist Kaput!!! Auf Vederseine, Mein alt Dolmar 112.......
Hallo und Guten Tage, mein neu Dolmar 7900!!!!

Or in english...... Stick a fork in it, It's Done!!!!

Savin' a few parts in case I locate another 112, and off to China with the scrap!!!!

In the words of the great Forrest Gump, "....that's all I have to say about that."

Just buy the 7900

Kaufen Sie gerade den Dolmar 7900, Ausgezeichnet sah. Sie werden über diese alte Reliquie vergessen. I think they are an excellent saw. besides if you are worrying about a dealer for repairs.. Look what the last dealer did for you? LOL. Buy the parts online and do it yourself

i would have to say the dealer owes you a saw. just the same way if somebody sent me a saw and it blew up in my shop, id owe them a saw.. your dealer is no exception. wouldnt expect a new saw, but i would expect one in the same condition as when it entered the shop or better.
