KK, I prefer to use square file chain because it cuts a little faster and is much better for milling and ripping, so it is just better for all around use for me.

I often convert round to square because almost no one sells square around here (unless they attend our GTGs). You go into a Stihl store and ask for square file chain and they will look at you like you are from Mars! I did buy a bunch from a member on another site who is a dealer.

I know who's 044 SVK rand years ago!!!! As I remember, he liked it better than any of the other saws I owned at the time!
Definitely understandable. Have youe ever considered just ordering a 100 foot spool of square chain? The beauty of having a spool of it is. Even if you don't need that much chain you can sell loops and at least break even and get your money back. Last time I ordered a spool of STIHL RS. It was $300 bones.

I stihl despise Stihl for their holier than though dealer network and then they sold their souls to the JD network after all of that smack talk. And the parts cartel. But they obviously make some good equipment.
Here Stihl stripped the JD dealers of their franchise . Most are at Agway/Ace or stand alone dealers

I wish they'd allow online parts sales. However, I'm lucky to have a very good dealer who knows his **** and doesn't charge list for everything. He sold me my MS400 PHO which I don't think they're supposed to do.

I need another project like I need a hole in my head!

I've already got logs that need to be milled, milled wood that needs to be used, saws that need to be fixed/modified or both, projects up at the cabin, reloading/shooting, etc, etc.

The guy with the dealership (upstate) buys reels of square and sells loops a reasonable prices so there was no need for me to do it. Used to see him at the NY GTG every year but unfortunately it is no more! I would always just tell him what I wanted and square it with him at the GTG.

Let us know where you can get any Stihl chain for that price now 🤣🤣

I got my 462 PHO from my dealer. IN THE BOX!! They're not supposed sell at a price better than MSRP either but mine does.

The one dealer near me was selling 461's for 30 bucks less than MSRP...I asked the Ace by my house if they would match and the guy got very angry and said "THEY CANT DO THAT"

When I bought my 241 from yet another dealer (most dealers in my area didn't know it existed and some actually argued with me about it's existence) I said "hey this is my first Stihl ever after running Huskies all my life, can you maybe throw in a hat or something"...."Nope" ...."Ok then."
