I could use a new best friend that works for MDOT... I wonder if they'll deliver like some of my other new best friends around here? šŸ¤”
It's mostly all cottonwood, kinda crazy how much was there.
I wonder what they are going to do with it, being the state/county, it will probably sit there and rot. Hope they at least sell it for pup wood. Maybe @Sawyer Rob could set his mill up down there in the median, he'd be busy for a while.

Alright guys....here is one for you in the "What would you do?"

Found out my neighbor two doors down stole something from the back of truck of a friend at the boat landing down the road from us. This fellow rents this little place from my neighbor each summer and this is his third or fourth summer here. He goes south for the winter. I know he and his GF have been fighting this summer (I have heard them shouting a few times at each other) so wonder if this may be their last time here anyhow.

Now granted its just a small item (lets call it's value maybe 25 bucks) but theft is theft and I am not a big fan of knowing this dude is near my house. The owner of the item hasn't taken any action yet.

I was thinking that after he leaves for the winter (which will be coming up soon) I was going to talk to the owner of the place and just let him know what played out as he probably would have no way of finding out otherwise. I'd honestly rather not have the guy back in the neighborhood. Obviously this could backfire but I feel the owner is a fair guy and should know what he's dealing with.
Theft is theft and if he gets away with it everybody will need more locks, and nobody will sleep well except maybe the thief.

MANY years ago, I bought a big pickup load of thick cottonwood lumber from a guy for $75.00. I brought it into my shop and (long story short) designed a "sewing table" and built it out of that cottonwood.

I showed it off at a Sewing & Vac shop and they bought it to resell, soon the orders came in and I built/sold a BUNCH of custom-built sewing tables out of that pile of lumber! They were a good money maker!

Cottonwood makes, much better lumber than people give it credit for.

My Uncle's co-worker had a cabin up on Hubble Hill. We had to backpack everything (including water) up the hill from the road. My Uncle used to live up there, so we had permission to hunt several properties. But one by one folks moved, sold or died and it all disappeared, and I purchased my 50 acres in 1985. My Uncle took his last deer up there (a Spike Buck) the same year I took a doe (in one of the pictures).

Too bad he never got to see the new cabin; he would have liked it. Hunting with 4 of us in the old (12 X 20) cabin was very cramped!
speaking of deer meat... I took advantage other day of a text i got... "you want any deer meat?" from a friends ranch... some days u just get lucky. šŸ¤© pan fried back strap, DIY hand cut fries... brussel sprouts as a side... šŸ‘ wanted to cook it trailside-like, but rainy few days, so inside. cast iron pan and in hot bacon grease, seasoned flour. how i like it...

If you get low, you can bring your wheelbarrow over to I-96 and grab a couple loads.
MDOT has almost got everything cleaned up now, just need to remove a bunch of lifted stumps and grind a bunch that are still n the ground, all the wood on the shoulders and in the median is now cleaned up. Makes me feel good that I got gone what I did here in such a short time, and they've had multiple crews working on it for 3.5 weeks now .
From the eastbound side.

It wasnā€™t that cramped! I was a teenager and those hunts are some of my fondest memories!! That was roughing it!! The new cabin is like a Holiday Inn! The new crowd that comes up donā€™t know how good they have it, youā€™ve spoiled them

The pic of good old Hanks deer is in this group View attachment 1113443
i can remember some deer hunts with my Dad back when... down in OR. we were in WA... and the old cabin was anything but... like the Holiday Inn! lol.... funny how some things stick with you. can't remember the mornings going hunting from that trip, or the mountains and valleys we hiked or the early morning wake-ups... but that cabin? never to be forgotten!

that was roughing it!

I used to know someone with that "Beer" logo as a tattoo. He admitted that getting that as a tattoo, was a decision made while using mind-altering substances.

Needs some advice. The neighbor down the lane sold their house to a Mennonite house flipper guy. We've been having issues with his contractors blocking the lane, burning the siding, shingles, construction debris etc.(the house is getting torn down to the foundation.) I've spoken with the "site" manager about it a few times and once with the owner. It gets better then it flares up again.
Yesterday after I got home, it was apparent from the fresh coating of black soot everywhere they were burning more siding and it looks like all the old foam board as well. My wife said the smoke was so thick you could hardly breath outside for several hours. Then they had a tree butcher in to drop several trees, including a huge white oak. (More to come on this in a bit.) Whim had the lane blocked up to the point my wife had to get out of her car and get him to move so she could get to work and the kids off to school. She was actually late feom having to find the guy.
I've spoken to the township and they don't seem to care much about it. (Private lane) so I went over to see if the owner or "site manager" (he's a lazy pos that stands around and acts important) were around. Neither were there so I spoke with the contractor and he claims the owner has the townships permission to burn building materials on-site. (I'll be checking on this today after work, however last I checked the ordinances we were only allowed to burn yard waste.) So I left it go till I could collect more information.
Assuming they are in the wrong, and since the township doesn't seem to care. What do I do to stop them from continuing to burn everything on site?

I thought all States had regulations on outside burning of building products and such, especially roofing materials, mattresses and foam. Call the State and ask them if your Township can't answer those questions.

I'll have to do that, or call the county office.
