Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

This is a question for the guys that do brushhog work. How much do you charge for that work? Is it by the hour, the acre or by the job. I did this job today for a guy. He was just quoted $1000 to do this field. I think it is 7 acres. It took me just under 4 hours and I charged him $400. He was not happy with my price. I told him the next time to call the other guy and pay him the $1000. He immediately wrote me out a check. I also had the opportunity to feed this Redtailed hawk a lot of mice and voles. It followed me all over the field eating up all the critters that I stirred up.

It is very easy to move these back and forth instead of moving small amount to the house. At least that is why I use them. I keep 8 full all the time and just rotate their usage. Mine are pretty much in the shade also. There is always a breeze and that dries the wood.

Breeze beats sun hands down for drying wood.
 
Well, I guess it’s good morning to most of you at this point.

I ended up working for about six hours Friday then came home and made dinner and ended up cleaning in the kitchen for about six hours. Now I’m about halfway done cleaning the kitchen lol.

Made some buffalo chicken “garbage bread” which is basically a pizza rolled up into a loaf and baked. That was really good. Also did spaghetti for the kids and roasted a spaghetti squash for myself. If you’ve never tried spaghetti squash with pesto, it’s really really good.

Finally, I took a look at some of the goodies I brought home from Texas. This Blue Plate mayo is supposed to be the next best thing according to the Internet.

I’ve only had bad gamey venison a couple of times. A couple of them were due to not getting them processed fast enough in warm weather. The last was a very bad batch of sausage because the guy that used to cut my venison got very lazy in the last few years before he quit and put a lot of stuff in the grind that shouldn’t have been in there.

Speaking of gamey, one time we accidentally shot a couple of common merganser’s. I heard they were terrible, but thought to myself they can’t be that bad, can they? So I cooked one up. Yes they can be that bad. Lol. I mean if you were starving, you could eat them but they aren’t very good.

Also, tried coyote at a game feed one time… It wasn’t terrible, but I certainly wouldn’t seek it out.

Dang! If you ever decide to quit your day job, you could start a restaurant. :laugh:

I think you were in the ballpark Jim. Love them Redtails. Chainsaw rates are listed in this link too. (on topic:laugh:)

Well Gents! It might not be Miller time, but it's definitely Mill'n time!
Most definitely the biggest OVERLOAD of green Spruce the trailer has hauled yet.

This saw mill has been on Kodiak since WW2
Not the mill site. The actual sawmill!

After the Sawyer picked the top three logs. I dumped the rest for him.

The sawyer at the small mill I worked at, told me that years before, he was tying down a load like that he had on his dump truck and a log rolled off and hit him in the head. Knocked him unconscious.

Your bobcat will load them that high?
