The oil life monitoring is time based not mileage based Jeff. At least on Fords. When I got my new 2009 it sat off and on for a few months because I was using my van to haul produce. Only had about 1,000 miles on it and got the change oil now message. Asked my Ford mechanic and he said just reset it. AND Synthetic oil for the win!!

The ones I've seen were based on how much fuel is burned.

Towing burns more fuel, so the oil needs changed more often, trips use less fuel so the monitor goes down slower.

That's how it works on my Silverado, and it's the proper way for it to work. I'm down to 10% now, so I'll be changing the oil soon.

Yes, packing today, but it will be on the dash for a bit.
Also if it's in a holster, theres one in the chamber(that can bring about a few comments lol), outside it, it's removed(no safety on my carries).
Edit; I got the big "clip" in it today too .

Seems to last longer than steel too judging my how quickly it dulls chains.

It can dull chains, but it cuts nice when green; when seasoned, thats a whole different story.
One thing I like about it when cutting logs that have been around a while, the bark just falls off. I usually keep a bunch of the bark and use it for mild days, it burns quite well, just produces a lot of ash.

The speedometer/odo don't work on the ol' Yota pickup anyway, so it always stays a nice low mileage vehicle.

The speedometer/odometer in my '97 F-350 is electronic... and was on a circuit with the cruise control. A "gremlin" caused the fuse to disable the circuit often, resulting in a "low mileage" truck! Ford made a warranty change in the wiring harness after couple of years.
The result is that the odometer only shows 286,700 miles! Regular oil and filter changes, and a couple sets of brakes are about all that's been done to the truck in an estimated 335,000 miles - with LOTS of 4wd and towing!

I had a commuter car, a Saturn SL2, that became a burner way too soon. I was putting on 140 miles per day and added a quart of oil every other day... It had 120K on it when I got rid of it and bought a Civic. The Civic only lasted 6 weeks... a tractor trailer took me out on a Thruway ramp. He changed lanes while on the ramp and crushed me between the trailer wheels and guard rail. I got another Civic... My son has it now. It's 15 years old and its got about 200K on it. It still runs strong without burning oil.

In 2018 we sold my wife's 1999 Acura 3.2 TL with 218k miles on it. It used around 1/2 quart of oil in 6k. My wife has been driving Honda products since 1987.

Hondas burn oil wouldn't be a statement I took offense to as it's pretty normal on many of them. They have had a few engines that burned excess oil, oil with more detergents helped as it cleaned/cleared the holes in the pistons that let the oil drain back into the crankcase. I add oil to both my 98 odyssey and our Toyota Camry on a normal basis, but both I'd hop in and drive to California, but I'd check the oil first, on the way there, and on the way back lol.
One time I had a 76 chevy panel van that burned quite a bit of oil, I'd add a bit of a quart every time I filled it for good measure. I sold it to a guy who blew it up a few weeks after I sold it to him, then he was upset about it. When I sold it to him I was very clear about him needing to check the oil every time he filled it! He sold it to a junk yard before even telling me he had an issue with it, had he told me before he did that I would have taken it back and given him his cash back, it had a freshly rebuilt trans, all new exhaust, and no rust because I had just drove it up from FL. Those ole 250 I-6 are great engines, just liked to drink a little oil. Oh, a buddy of mine owned the junkyard it was sold to, I checked the dipstick, and the dipstick never put oil in it, nothing on it .

Never bother changing oil in anything, just keep adding new oil as the old stuff burns off. More environmentally friendly that way.

Question for those of you who drive vehicles from this century. Do you use the oil life monitor, or just change based on mileage?

I have a first generation EcoBoost which has known issues with timing chain tensioner and guides so I'm religious about oil changes. I use the oil life monitor and set it to 70% and use full synthetic. I won't mention brand because the "packin heat" thread doesn't need to change to an oil thread!
Just curious on what others do.

I have a 2019 2.7l and I've been shooting for 7,500 (miles, not kilometers) and ignoring the oil life monitor. I run whichever name brand 5w-30 synthetic is on sale and use oem filters.

It's a ported 562, it runs well for sure.
Black locust, one of the best for being rot resistant. Unfortunately they don't typically grow very big and they aren't the straightest for milling.

Good firewood though from what I understand.Some of the best. Even almost as good as Spruce!

If I had a machine like that I'd run the same size and tooth profile of chain on all my saws (vary the DL count only)...

I was wondering if it burned cutters myself. Also, can it be set up to do all three chain configurations? FC, SS and FS?
If the machine actually works well and dose a good job. I could see owning one if I were to run a big saw shop down south and folks were constantly bringing in chains to be freshed up. Other than that. I'll pass, its just not practical enough for my needs and probably a pretty penny.

Those Granbergs are a lot of fun! I've milled a bit of lumber with them myself. A lot of set up and a lot of work, but fun none the less.
