Little known Johnny Cash story....... decades ago , Marty Stuart nervously asked John for Cindy's hand in marriage. At the time John wasn't very fond of Marty hence Marty being nervous. The story goes something like this...... " So I knew I (Marty) had to do the right thing and ask, so I mustered all the courage I had and walked up to him and asked. He paused for what felt like an eternity and then looked down at me from way up there and said the words that are forever burned into my brain. John said " I reckon you're both of marryin' age so I can't stop you but if you ever hurt my daughter, I'll kill you!" And I believed every single word!"
Oddly, the relationship with Cindy failed, but through it John came to have a deep friendship with Marty from then on even hiring him as his guitar player for a while, and later they bought property beside each other to make visiting easier.
There is another story with a different daughter and I think Ricky van Shelton but it's fuzzy right now. Maybe another time.
John was gracious enough to sign mine and my brothers guitar when he was here at the "little Nashville opry" years ago in Nashville Indiana. Just a simple treasure of mine.
